Do you mean you also pieced yours together from universal components, or the TRD w/o filter was 250?

I think he meant he purchased the 6 TRD components that individually make up the TRD kit for $250 and choose to use a AFE brand filter.

No not in my experience, my dyno showed 12hp and 23lb tq. I don't post it because there are way to many forum jockeys saying things based on what they heard, if that. I guess people can say the same by me not posting it but I really don't care to argue about it anyway.

I know this is an old thread....if you are buying the parts individually....do i even need the new bottom box? It appears to be the same as the factory part. I think the "gains" are in the lid and the tube?

I think the closure points are different between the two bottom sections. I installed mine about 6 months ago, so maybe someone who has done it more recently could confirm if my memory is correct.

I will double check mine. I just installed last week. But I do know the TRD box has all 3 bolts on the inside of the box while the factory has 2 inside and 1 out. Also the factory lid and TRD lid connect differently. There are only 2 locks used on the TRD while 3 or 4 on the factory.

They are different. You will need a new one.
