TRD cold air intake...

Actually, I had two issues/problems.

1) One was one of the two 12mm bolts that mount into the bottom of the new intake box. It only goes so far into the wheelwell (leaving about a 1/4" of play), so I removed an extra piece (rubber grommet thing w/ metal cylinder in center) from the old intake and kinda 'jerry-rigged' it. It worked well.

2) The other thing was the nut and washer for the top of the rubber mount (that holds the A/C line bracket in place). The washer would not fit without some dremeling due to the curvature of the new intake box, so I just used the nut.

Anybody else have these two problems? One more thing, there were two clips (holding wires in place) that required removal from the old intake. That was the hardest part of the whole process. Just get some small needle-nose pliers and maybe a small flat head screwdriver and go to town. Note: you WILL NOT need the clips for the new CAI, so do what you gotta do...wink.

Other than that, it was cake. The directions were very clear and include pictures, which I appreciate. Do it.

$300+ for an intake isn't a good deal;TRD is sure making people pay for their logo and IMO is really ripping people off for the minimal HP gain in return. A few measly HP isn't going to do anything noticeable but many buyers swear they feel the diff but most likely it's just them trying to justify the big hole in their bank accounts.

I guess I'm glad I own a 3rd gen and got the same HP results for pretty much nothing and I got the WOT growl with it.

I got a TRD intake for 2 reasons.

1. It was designed by Toyota, so I figured I wouldn't have the bend-to-fit issues that another aftermarket intake may have. Note: I don't recall seeing any of the competition look like the TRD, so how could this be a knockoff of another?

2. If the K&N was only $40-ish cheaper, why go with that one. I read some poor reviews on K&N's FIPK, though none for the 4Runner.

Yeah, it's a box with a filter, but it lets my engine breathe easier, it gets rid of a lot of crap from under the hood, it looks professional IMO and some money was burning a hole in my pocket.

Plus, if I don't modify what I'm driving in one way or another, I'll get bored and sell it, so this intake kinda "sparked" some life back into the relationship between me and my ride. 10-4?
 
Its your hard earned money -do what you want.

For me its a no brainer, you couldnt get me to pay so much for something that does almost nothing.
 
Guess will have to wait a little more for my TRD CAI, found out today my unit is back ordered and may be arriving in the next shipment they expect at the end of the month.

Where did you order from and how much?

I was wanting to wait on the volant for the v6 as they stated it would be around April or so for that. But the TRD looks good.

BTW cancelled original order supplier and went to a friend in toyota parts dept. Order arrived today.. Going to pickup and see if I can install tonight:cool:

Had same problem with the bolt in the intake but not he second one you mentioned.

I could not get those clips off so I just cut them.

This intake works well with my magnaflow exhaust, sounds even better then before.

Could you post a picture with the box opened, so we can see how filter is located there?
Is there any chance you can measure the box too? I'm wandering how big is it (outside dimensions).

It arrived today, and got installed in an hour (including unpacking the box and reading the instruction) and the installation was a breeze especially for me where i can go only as far as changing oil and fill up gas. i came across on the #1 you mentioned. i have no extra washer that would fit on the 12mm bolts so i left it like that but no problem. and the clip that holds the cable, i just cut it and be done with it. ill add some washers soon.

if im to rate the difficulty on the installation, its a 3 of 10. thanks for the good installation instruction.
