Anyone running one of these? Any theads discussing it?

1. Does it help fuel effeciency at all?
2. How often do you need to replace the filter?
3. How does the cold air intake work vis-a-vie the conventional air filter? Do I still need an air filter or does the cold air intake replace it?

I have one on my 07 Tacoma and the GF says she doesn't want one :(......

Didn't seems to help with fuel mileage on my my truck.

Keep it clean..should last forever. It's like a K&N filter that you can just wash and put it back in.

It helps breath better and comes with a filter. Now why I cant get one for the 4R...When at WOT the thing comes to life and shakes the heck out of the truck and just sounds pure evil....LOL really like it with the TRD exhaust, they seem to work great together. Other than a SC It's the best thing to do to free up some HP. Hope it helps....

EDIT: It's its own unit so you replace the stock box with the TRD CAI

I recently installed one. Haven't noticed a mpg difference but I wasn't really expecting to. Sounds great when you hit the gas, makes it all worth while to me, exhaust is my next upgrade for sure!

CAI's don't increase MPG by any function of their design. They just increase top-end power by trying to get a little more air into the cylinders. I installed one on my last car and my mileage dropped when I got addicted to the sound....

Are any of the CAI's smoggable?
Do you mean will the car fail a smog test if you install one? TRD's description seems to suggest that everthing in it conforms to emmission standards in all 50 states.

Anybody got a good link to where I could purchase the TRD cold air intake, by good link I mean the cheapest! :bigok:

Please keep us posted on your results , I was thinking of the TRD
for mine but , The stock seems to work so good.
Or Maybe a K&N filter in the stock housing ?.
Any input about H.P gain ?

Right now I use the Toyota filter. No complaints.

OLD but requesting info...

i'm looking to buy a TRD CAI for my 03 sport v8... who is still running theirs and do you "love" it??

I'm not entirely sure what the procedure is for other states, but in California all approved aftermarket components for the intake/exhuast modification of a vehicle have a CARB (California Air Resource Board) Sticker with an ID number that indicates this product is legal for use on a road-going vehicle and will not fail visual inspection when smogged.

The TRD intake is a rebadged K&N filter kit, our trucks already use a "CAI" style intake So in reality all you're doing is swapping for a different style box and filter. K&N filters work best when cleaned regularly and kept lightly oiled as per their instructions as they are a "wet filter." Much like any "high flow" filter they're filtering capability is reduced due to larger openings (their requirement of a light coating of oil it to help mitigate this) and theoretically can lead to more debris being introduced into the engine.

All in all, you'll be fine if you install it and combine it with a good catback/free flowing exhuast; which should net you a couple ftlbs of torque and slightly better high-end response.

exhaust

I already did a upgraded exhaust, i want a little "throat-er" sound... that's actually the main thing i was looking for! I'm always opt for some more top-end horses!

lilreds21, not sure that TRD even makes that cai for a 4runner v8.

I love mine!!!

i got the TRD intake for my V6 from the Fj cruiser forums. i absolutely love it. the noise is phenomenal, the look on peoples faces when i gun it is priceless. gas mileage....1-2MPG. on a tank babying it i got 19.4 with the original setup, this last tank with the TRD intake i got 18.7 driving reasonably but with a few rompings and a run in with a 2nd gen firebird ;D
