TRD Leather Kit and DVD Install

Ok Guys my 2 cents of what I have learned. I suck at taking pictures. The pictures were taken in the dark at night in my garage with ALOT of lights on. I can see the leather looks a lot lighter than it really is. The darker leather matahces the interior, center console perfectly where as the lighter color is not a 100% match, more like 95%. The lighter interior looks like a gray blue kind of, where as this lighter leather looks like is has brown in it. I mean it ia a slight difference, but then again when it is in the sun it changes shades and when it is in the dark it looks completely different. The stiching was done in silver with the Graphite color outlining and TRD logo in Graphite. THose came out awesome
Leather:
The shop I HAD to use because they were the only Classic Soft Trim authorized Dealer to install this TRD Kit in AZ. THey took care of both the leather and DVD Kit. The leather is much more comfortable than the cloth, very soft and perforated, big difference from the Sport Cloth seats. Tee shop unfortunately did scratch and break a few pieces installing the leather kit which they are going to replace. More of a pain than anything. One broken seat hinge cover and some scratched door pieces. No big deal. The leather installed farily well with a few minor touch ups when I take the truck back in next week. Re securing seat bottoms etc. There was a problem with the stiching coming apart on both front seats in exactly the same part. THey ordered me a new set with no problems. Now I had the custom stich work done on the seat after learning TRD did not license their logo to go onto the 4Runner seats WITH Airbags?? Go figure. I think this was a blessing in diguise really. I saw the TRD logo stiched on another seat and it looked horrible. The TRD wasn't that bad, but the Sport was only outlined with the seat being the base color. That didn't look good at all. This way I added the Official TRD logo with the slashes and stiched on a better looking Sport logo. The rear seats DO NOT come stiched either from Classic Soft Trim, I got mine stiched all around. That made a huge difference. One not if doing this make sure you get the upholstery shop to take apart the seat and stiching and embrioder directly onto the leather, this way it will lay flat, if you do not do thia dn stich directly on the seat the way it came from Classisc Soft trim, your logos will look recessed and suken in with crease all around. OVerall I am very happy with the leather kit and would highly recommend this kit to everyone, well worth it.
Now the DVD Install.
The DVD's are getting re-worked. The true receommended size for the 4Runner is a 5.8 maybe a 6 inch screen. Well I went to 7inch. I do not like the smaller screens, what is the point of getting dvds with the smaller screens? Now the components are all the higest models from Audiovox. The screens look amazing. THe dvd are going to get re-worked to sit FLUSH with the headrest. Yes I know they stick out now, but there is going to be major work done to these headrest to get them to fit flush. THe problem with the screens is that they have that huge bezel around them with the IR sensor. I wanted to do a few things
I wanted to switch to a raw LCD 7 inch screen from Icon today but decided against it for a few reasons. One they will be a pain to mount as raw lcd screens come with no mounting hardware. then the Audiovox has the IR built in to the top of the unit which come to find out is a GREAT feature. This is what allows your headsets to work wirelessly. If I went with the raw screens, I would lose this feature and would either have to go with an RF Wireless transmitter(which by the waysound HORRIBLE for audio) or mount a Dome on the interior roof as a remote IR transmitter to pick up the headsets signals which I do not want to do. I like the IR intergration into the headrest. Now today I went back to the shop to discuss better alternatives for a cleaner install becasue I am a perfection freak. They had the same units installed into a nother truck and they were mounted flush. MAN waht a huge visual difference. This is the way I am going to go. IF they can make them fit then great if not I either go with the Icons or the hide the bezel underneath the leather and place the dvd screen on top of the leather. I would then still need the roof mounted IR transmitter. Overall this has been a huge learning experience for me. I couldn't go with the Headrest that already have the units built into to them as the =y were all larger and would not accomodate my custome leather for the headrest. I am making custom covers for the headrests with some extra pieces ordered from Classic soft trim so I can get an exact match.
The DVD player is installed in my center console with more than enough room. They installed it with mounting brackets that I took off and used Industrial strangth velcro which loos better and acts as a buffer for vibration. I just have to tune the radio to a preset staion, flip on my FM modulator and I got a great sounding DVD. Let me tell you the sound is incredible with the JBL 10 speaker set-up especially in the back seat.
All in all I am happy when everything will be re-worked sometime next week.

Thanks for the compliments guys, the truck is going back next Tuesday to get reowkred on and touched up. FInalize all the leather, make sure to fasten all the loose ends. Dvd's will get re-worked as well completely Flush mounted(will look much better) if they can, then change out to raw LCD screens and roof mount the IR transmitter I guess. A 110 Volt plug addition will be installed along with the exisiting RCA plugs for the xbox game console in the rear. Just minro things, I can't wait until it is all done!!!
Ok guys new pics coming. FINALLY picked me up the SOny DCS-T! digital 9very small0 camera. Now I am a digital picture maniac. I re-worked the DVD, MUCH better. Took them to a custom upholstery shop to build the bigger headrest to accomodate the seven inch screens. WOW what a difference with a much cleaner look. Re-roekd the leather after the install, but you wouldn't tell. just touch up from the install shop under the seats and around the hinges nothing too major. I am just anal like that. Now I can take all the upgrade pics so far for the truck.

One note guys 7 inch screens DO NOT fit in our stock headrest. 5.8 inch screens barely do due to the angles of the stock headrest. Save yourself some time if going this way and have them built up from a reputable upholstery shop.

When I make a final decision I'll let You know so I can find out what this guy can do for me and for how much.....I really like Okkin’s leather with TDR logo on them but I'm still not sure about it because than I have to also add heating system to my seats. You know sometimes it gets pretty cold around here...
