I forget the guy's tag that posted all the professional grade pictures.
He must have 5000 miles on his by now.
Hey jtallequipment,
Somehow, I missed this thread, but have been busy lately...
I currently have just over 3k on mine. after my 2500k trip, I've been trying to cool the jets a little to keep mileage reasonable as it's not even 2015 yet!
My impressions: Feel exactly the same way as Mooney described with wheel/tire change. With the 275 heavy ST/Maxx's, the TRD went from light and snappy and ultra smooth to a bit of a heavier, more planted and somewhat sluggish feel. Don't read "horrible" but more of now I'm actively watching the pedal and slowing sooner and becoming more of a trained pilot to keep mpg's in check. Rather than driving without care, I'm driving like a pilot in the sense that I more carefully watch everything. Going up hills, I watch my speed and keep a certain feel on the gas, going downhills I predict more of what it'll take to stop regarding engine braking vs. brakes and general vehicle inertia. It's not as bad as it sounds mind you. I did lose about 2-2.5 mpg with the Gobi & Coopers, so I'm trying to keep it reasonable in the city, so I can tear it up offroad.
The stock TRD sort of gave me a sports car feel. It was lighter & quicker and the Nittos we're great for street. My new setup is awesome too though. it is a beefier, truck feel now than a sports car. I feel that I can just blow over rocks now that would've given me pause with the Nittos. Love the Gobi and Nfabs... Just step up and grab the rack and things. Feels much more of a true "utility" vehicle now. Which is what I wanted for harsh desert rocks, camping, towing, etc.
All that being said, I don't regret anything on the TRD or what I've added. Overall, It's the best, most capable vehicle I've ever owned and I had a 3rd gen black 4Runner for 13 years. I really wish there was more power for sure, but I guess you can't have it all. Big picture: Awesome truck & Love it!
