Finally! I dug this up Googling for any results of using the Rustoleum metallic black paint on the Scosche kit. That looks amazing! Did the shop pull off the same super smooth high gloss finish as the OEM trim? It looks like it in the pictures but I can't tell if it's as deep and slick.

Yes, the result from the bodyshop was 100% match with the rest of the factory interior. When I dropped off the kit, I actually left one of the side pillars with them so they could be certain it would match.

I ended up replacing the head-unit again, this time with the Alpine x108u. It has an 8 inch screen, so it's bigger than the double-din opening in the kit. I had to cut into the opening for it to fit, but I think it still turned out pretty well.

Yes, I used the Metra Axxess ASWC-1. It works fine for volume up/down and track next/previous. Unfortunately none of the aftermarket HUs I've tried allow the up/down/left/right type of controls that would be compatible with the directional keys on the 4R steering wheel. That's unfortunate because that kind of interface navigation was one of the only things I liked about the factory HU.

I don't use Bluetooth often, so I had to go test it out real quick.

The HU has a built-in microphone (small little hole on the bottom left of the button row in the pics), but also allows connection to an external mic. I assume you could tap into the factory mic if you were so inclined.

After pairing my phone, all three of the steering wheel phone buttons worked.

• Talky-face-guy button initiates Siri, and therefor any function she is capable of
• Answer button worked
• Hang-up button worked

Did anybody ever find a non-shop solution? I went opposite direction. I bought a trail/trd radio for a decent price and am trying to paint the trim to match.

I tried rustoleum black night metallic. And it's not really close. At all. With that being said, it's not too different to where it bothers me enough to buy the right trim pieces or get a quote from a collision shop. Just seeing if anybody found a good, cheap solution.

It's not....I believe the OP was asking about the trim color for the TRD Pro and Trail models. They're black as opposed to silver for SR5s. No one makes the bezel trim in black that matches the dash.
