Does it actually have the same metallic paint scheme as the original?

I'd imagine it's the same one. Had to have a local audio place order it since it is Dealer Direct. I had previously purchased a silver Scosche online and was going to get it painted in town, but no one will do it for less than $225!
I will put some pics on this thread after it comes in.

Metra Kit ordered in Black. My installer found one :eyebrows:
Looks great, I was torn between that one and the Pioneer one. I ended up with the pioneer. I just wish the head unit in these were better from the factory.

So I just got off the phone with Crutchfield (they responded to my email in less than 30 minutes). They are looking into the product now and will special order it if needed. I'm still waiting on a price and to find out if they'll start stocking the kit. I'll update when they get back to the details, hopefully by tomorrow.

I talked to Crutchfield last month about the silver Metra kit, they said they stopped carrying it because of customer complaints and fitment issues. Maybe as a black option they'd bring it back.
Metra's website lists it as part number 99-8227CHG (Charcoal High Gloss)
The only place that listed that part number aside from the manufacturer was ABT's website which is backordered and seems expensive at $80.

I mentioned something similar in my email, asking if they'd persuade Scosche to come out with a black equivalent. I'd prefer Scosche, honestly, but this looks to match well enough and $80 is a bit crazy. I'll keep my DIY painted version at that price.
Reception issues
I also recently swapped out my deck, and went with the pioneer 8200nex. Problem is, I have terrible reception! I used the Metra 40-Lx11 antenna adapter. When installing it, I noticed the antenna wire from the truck had two prongs in its connector while the Metra only had one. I verified also that the blue wire was connected to the stereos antenna wire. Anyone else have a problem with poor FM and AM reception?Has anyone figured out what the second prong is for on the plug? Thanks in advance !

I emailed Crutchfield to see what they say. Fitment of my Scosche kit isn't exactly great, so I wonder if the Metra is that bad?
Did you hook up the blue lead to your remote turn on wire on the deck? Make sure its getting 12v
Yeah, I went back and made sure of it. I have heard that older 4runners have two antennas, one for AM and one for FM. Not sure if this is what the second antenna prong is for in the connector..... the reception is terrible.

1) What year 4Runner?
2) The single plug in the bottom is either the OEM GPS or SiriusXM antenna depending on if it goes up into the dash (GPS) or down to the floorboard (XM). So you should be working with the double connector which appears to be keyed that will only fit one way.
3) Did you solder connections, use crimp butt connectors, or use the fancy offset clip fittings?
4)3) The Metra Adapter blue wire should be connected to your radio's power antenna wire (typically Blue/White). The 4Runner uses an amplified radio antenna. Without the power it's going to have nearly no signal, and poor reception. With a multi-meter you should be able to ensure you've got DC12v on the Metra adapter blue wire without having to tear the harnesses apart.
The truck has a diversity antenna, meaning a secondary back up antenna. The after market radio does not have a diversity antenna tuner so that is why the adapter only utilizes the main antenna.
Headunit
I have had a lot of audio systems in my vehicles over the years. The last one was in my Tacoma and had it taken out when I traded it in and sold all of it. I had the Pioneer 8200 headunit it was a great unit. When the time comes to upgrade my 4Runner Pro I’m keeping the stock headunit in. My friend owns a audio store I have been dealing with him for years. Him and his installer have a lot of knowledge with doing installs. He competes with his car in shows. They can make it sound awesome still with the factory headunit. I plan on doing 5 channel amp and sub. Processor and not touch the hatch speakers. Leave them in and just change out the rest. There really not needed.

FYI ABT has them in stock again. I ordered one to see how it looks. $80 is cheaper than getting my existing Scosche painted, but if it doesn't look great, I'll get the Scosche painted, sell the Metra, and eat the loss.

Hey there, sorry for the late response; never saw this notification! I ordered it through a local place here in Fairbanks called Street Sounds. I paid $80 out the door. I'm sure some of that was straight income for them, but hey, I go it, and I like it.
It doesn't seat perfectly at the top, but that may be due to my stereo sitting a bit lower. Overall, it's exactly what I had expected. Color is about 92% accurate, and the fit is about 93% correct. I'm happy with it. Here's some pics:

give these guys a look.. lots of praise for a OEM-like system.. nearly a plug n play setup without sacrificing trunk space and since you've been playing w/ car audio for awhile, you'll understand tuning is a very important part in making everything sound good.. these guys have done the tuning, research and tweaks..
