Well I hope they meet somewhere damn cold because the friggin clunk has disappeared from my Pro, lol. Seriously though I believe they will figure this out in due time so those of you that say you are on the fence about buying a Pro need to relax a bit. These things rock clunk and all.

I just hope my dealer doesn't flake on me. I don't have a VIN yet but they say it is coming within a week. I have some connections with the lot manager but I still don't trust it yet.
Personally I can't wait to drive around aimlessly listening for the clunk in mine! lol

Okay, sorry for the delay; when the service dept called toyota usa the service rep put it on speaker phone so I could listen in. The toy usa rep said they had a meeting about this issue today and that they were collecting data at this time on all the 4runners that were having the clunk issue from the TRD Pro suspension. There was a list of stuff they wanted to know that was related to the clunk noise/issue.
When does it happen? First thing in the morning when first driven and/or throughout the day.
What is the outside temperature when the clunk is present
What type of road conditions
Is the suspension verified installed correctly (verified by dealership)
Are there any suspension fluid leaks present
Are all associated suspension parts torqued to the correct specs
Verify that left and right front shocks are installed on the correct sides.
Is the clunk in the front or back or both
If attainable, Video/audio of the clunk but need camera pointing to the speedo to verify speed limit when the clunk happens. (Service tech to do this and attach to case file to be sent to toy usa rep with all questions answered)
So, basically they are just doing data collection to find trends from multiple overlapping data collections. This being the case, it would behoove everyone having the issue to have a case file created and to visit their dealership so the data collection part can get submitted. It might help speed up this data collection/troubleshooting process.
Other than that, I don't think they have any real single reason pinned down for the clunk issue. Hopefully they are doing some testing of their own during the interim.

But...I too have noticed the "clunck" up front. 2 of the sales guys at Thompson Toyota in MD (where I purchased) have also bought the pro, and also have the "clunk". Next Thursday I am dropping mine off and a rep from Toyota"central" is coming and driving/tresting all 3. Seems they are hearing a lot about this. So heres hopin' they find and fix the problem. Will post after I know more. Great site , by the way. I traded in a 2010 FJ for the pro. Love both but needed the extra room in the back for my daughter who has CP and had problems with the back 1/2 door on the FJ. I was a member on the FJ forum. Be well.

Cool. Keep us updated if you don't mind...Mine just got here today. Haven't picked it up yet. I plan to spend many hours 'testing' for the clunk in 70 degree weather...
Is the rep that is coming to test drive a tech guy or a suit guy? Thanks,

I have driven mine a total of 15 miles and not a single clunk... I'm in the clear! :becky: Thems jokes of course. Last I read it is more pronounced in the cold which it is not here thankfully. I'm going to keep an eye/ear out for it though.

Congrats on the new ride!
I've got 6K miles on mine, the majority of those thru the Denver winter and many trips up and down the hills for skiing. Not a single clunk.
:shrug:
I'll keep us all updated on Klunk-gate. I think he's going to tell me tomorrow that he can't duplicate the problem. It's going to be to warm. He's a field tech supervisor. So, he's tech and a suit.

Update: Been a while, here is the latest. My Case manager just called and confirmed that the information that M. Sweers, Chief Engineer Trucks at Toyota Motor Engineering provided was accurate information:
1. Confirmed with TRD engineering that the issue is being worked on as other have said on the forum
2. Currently the sound and vibration is "Characteristic for the TRD Pro suspension" - Meaning that it is not a one off issue but effecting most if not all the struts when tested in the same conditions
3. The issue is being investigated by the supplier as well and they have recovered sample units from the field to be sent to the supplier.
4. A possible resolution could come in the form on a CSP- Customer support program or a time boxed service bulletin that would require us to bring in the vehicles for a fix (Once or if they have one) within a specific time period.
With the temps in NY getting close to 70 degrees, my clunking is hardly noticeable but I am pretty sure it will return next winter, so I am staying on top of this for a fix. Thanks to everyone that has been contributing to this thread.

Thanks. I've been driving mine for 2 days in mostly 60-85 degree weather and I have occasionally noticed what I think is the clunk. In mine, I can't be sure that it is not something like the lug wrench bag bouncing when I go over a big bump but I am pretty sure it probably is not. It is mild but I can imagine it being worse in cold weather. Could the clunk be mistaken for something like I described? Or, is it a different sound/feeling than something bouncing somewhere in the truck?
By the way I'm not implying that the clunk is just something bouncing. I'm just wondering if I am hearing gremlins that don't exist in mine if that makes sense. Those of you that have experienced it for sure; can you tell me if it feels similar to that?

What you are experiencing sounds like something is loose in your cargo area. The clunk everyone is experiencing is definitely coming from the front end. You can actually feel it in the steering wheel. The temps we have been having in Texas have been warm enough that I have not been noticed the clunk in a while.

I don't have a PRO, but have been following this with great interest. I was speaking with a gent from Bilstein yesterday about another issue, and he confided that my issue was on hold because the priority was diagnosing the "clunk" on the TRD PROs. They have PROs on the lifts and were going over everything.
Bilstein engineered and produced the PRO suspension, along with TRD. Initial reports point to the sway bar, but I don't believe they've reached a conclusion.
Perhaps I should not have said anything, but I guess a little news helps.... I'm sure it will be worked out in short order.
