I am supposed to be picking up a trdp later this week and last night was the first I heard of this "clunk" (in this thread). It has me very nervous now as I am one of those that little things like this can drive crazy. Luckily I am here in Houston and make a concerted effort to not leave the house if the temp drops below 60 degrees or so. Maybe I will not hear it then? All I know is this thing has me very concerned. Any further updates appreciated!

Living in Northern AZ I don't have any complaints of a clunk. I'm sure like everyone says it is temperature dependent.

Thank you, that makes me feel a bit better. Right after posting that question I got a call and a photo from the dealer that the trdp is in and unloaded. Do't know if I will be able to get down there tomorrow to get it, or may have to actually wait until next wednesday due to work.

My 5K mile service
I took my TRD Pro in for it's 5K service today (Ira Toyota in Milford, MA). I explained the cold weather clunk (which has all but disappeared since the weather is now in upper 70s / low 80s in New England). I descibed the anomaly and told them all I had learned here in this blog (mainly that Toyota and Bilstein were aware and working on it). I also insisted that they note this, along with the case number provided by follow member TRDPRO, in my service record (this was in case I am off warrantee when they finally figure this out - or worse, that they try to say it is simple wear and tear if too much time has passed).
Love the truck ... since picking it up in early February I have installed the Inferno bodyside moldings, added the retractable cargo cover and luggage net, and put the cross rails in the roof rack. And as with all my vehicles, the WeatherTech molded floor mats were a must.

Hey all, I've got a TRD Pro in super white slated for delivery in mid July. Reading this thread has me a bit worried that they haven't found a fix for this problem yet. Any updates as to Toyota/TRD/Bilstein's resolution of this matter? Thanks!

I've been watching this issue as I have a white TRD Pro but have not had the clunk until now. After checking I think I have an issue with the wrong rubber insulators on the top shock mount. They are different from left to right and one is compressed properly and one is not. The insulators also look to be a different size from L to R. The compression nuts on top are both tightened down the same amount but the insulator on the drivers side is not compressed and the clunk is on that side.
I'll be looking into it further.

Update: Drivers side clunk. I can rotate the top rubber bushing by hand. It is loose. Either the combination of bushings at the top shock mount is not correct or the bottom bushing is missing. This makes me wonder about the qualifications of the personal installing these units at the port. I can imagine with all the bushings laying around after removing the stock units that they are getting the bushings mixed up.
Does anyone have contact info on a bilstein person that might be looking into the TRD Pro clunk issue?

As stated above I have an issue with the wrong insulators on the upper shock mount and I find this hard to understand because the images I have seen for the shock spring assembly show them coming fully assembled. Does anyone know if the upper shock mount needs to be disassembled for installation into the truck? My clunk is getting louder and will need to be taken care of soon.

It's possible that the set installed at the port is not assembled and requires dis assembly of the factory set up and re-assembly and that the set sold by TRD to be installed aftermarket is fully assembled.

Has anyone had their TRDPRO clunk fixed yet? I'm interested to hear the reasons for this. I'll be taking mine in soon and it would be good to give them some areas to look for besides what I've found.

When you found this, did you contact your dealership and tell them?
If no, I would suggest you do this asap.
They may inquire as to why you didn't bring it in when you first found an issue!
I would hope they don't give you any flack for driving it after noticing it and not scheduling an appt.
I hope you get it fixed without issue.
Let us know what else you identified and then let us know the outcome.

I forwarded his info on to my contact at Toyota, and he forwarded it to the engineers. Still awaiting a response from them.

I did stop by the dealer already last week to give them a heads up and showed the young service writer the issue with the loose left top shock insulator bushing. I also told him it was a problem with some TRDPROs and that there may be a TSB on it. I don't think he knew what he was looking at. It's going in next week.
I was thinking maybe someone has had theirs fixed and was wondering what they found.
It seems the interest in this thread has fallen and was wondering why. Is the problem being resolved for the owners that have this problem? With dealers in my area only selling 1 or 2 so far, they are not aware of it. I just want as much info as possible to help point them in all possible areas if there is more than one reason. It would be nice not to need to take it in more than once.

The reason interest is falling off is because of warm temperatures. Almost everyone who had the clunk only has it when the temps are cool, myself included.

Mine didn't start thunking until warm weather. Interesting.
It's been quiet here...any updates on the issue being resolved?
So I did a big brake upgrade on my pro...I wanted to see how well it would stop the pro...it did a big nose dive and CLUNK...:wtf: This is in hot weather about 95F degrees.
I've never tested out my pro to see if I had that problem but now I know I have the clunk.
Going to test it on a cold morning now...and will report back...

My 5100s sound weird when it's below 0.
