TRD Pro Clunk

Haven't had temperature drops that get it to clunk yet around here. I'm just waiting for the colder days. I'm going to have to do two things before getting to the dealer:
1) wait for colder consistent temperatures somewhere near the 40's or lower
2) find a curb or road joint near the dealership where I can consistently have the sound-and-feel repeated
Then stop by and grab their best service-tech for a ride. Otherwise it's always going to be one of those "I don't feel it or hear it" things like it was during my 5K visit. The last service tech kept insisting it was the sway bar links clunking and that it was normal.

Update: It's been a while and my case manager for the past two months has claimed that there has been no movement on the position that this condition is within "manufacturers specifications" No service bulletins either. That being said, I have not had any clunk sounds or vibration this summer. It will probably re-surface as the temp drops.

I have always wanted to put bigger sneakers on this thing and the only way to do it is with a lift, so I am going this route as I tend to agree with [MENTION=66316]1engineer[/MENTION], that the TRD PRO was not a Toyota manufacturing product but more of TRD (US engineering) that came up with the mods and if their testing happened above 50 degree, they probably never came across the issue. I am trying to salvage the TRD/Bilstein Shocks since I actually like the ride quality minus the sound. I will check back in a few weeks after my mods are complete and let you know how it turned out.

Took my TRDP in last wednesday for the clunk noise. First, they said the strut bolts were loose and tightened them back up took it for a quick test drive. They quickly called back and said nope strut is bad need to replace. Unfortunately, the part is on national backorder said it could be a week for the part to come in. I suspect even longer if they have to go to bilstein for a new strut.

Apologies head of time if this has been answered but has any tech used chassis ears to isolate the noise. We do this frequently since we have very picky customers and Louisiana roads are awful on suspensions. It would be a surprise that not one of the dealers you guys have visited has these.

Hey all, I have the clunk as well. Glad to see a dedicated thread to this. I am yet to take my TRDP to the dealer. My question is, should I tell them to check anything in particular? I couldn't seem to find anyone that totally pinpointed the problem. If anyone go the clunk fixed, I'd love to know exactly what the dealer replaced.

Just had my 15K service yesterday. Tech went on a ride with me for a different issue but I asked about the clunk and he mentioned he looked it up and hasn't seen any TSB about it.

Colder days are coming and I have his name and permission to drive by and grab him if I can get the symptoms to present again.

Yep, 2016 with 2k miles on it and I have the clunk. Dealer bound on monday.

Have any Pro owners not experienced the "clunk"? Is this primarily a cold weather problem or do all Trd Pro 4Runners exhibit a clunk?

I was hoping that I somehow skirted the clunk, since I have about 3,000 miles on it and no clunk.

Of course, as soon as it got cold here (20s F for a few days) and I took it to the liquor store with speed bumps....clunk!

Read back through your post....My dealer ordered a new set of chassis ears and I have an appt on Monday to bring it back in.

2016 TRDP Clunk

Yep, 2016 with 2k miles on it and I have the clunk. Dealer bound on monday.

My 2016 TRDP same clunk, until I installed Toytec lift last weekend.

Never heard the clunk, and have installed the toytec kit, so it seems I will never know what that clunk sounds or feels like.

Anyone else have any updates on what finally fixed the clunk? Mine is at the stealer today for 15K service and 3rd look at the clunk issue. I have no confidence of them finding a solution unless there is a TSB or case number I can point them to...

I had the same issue with my Tundra TRD. However, it only makes the cluncking sound when i start the vehicle and make a first turn. It something like it resets whenever i shut off the engine. The tech said, it must be the suspension. Glad I traded the truck, but i missed it.

Thanks for the info. Most of us that are experiencing it have it happen 100% of the time in cooler temps (does not go away). It lessens in warmer temps to where it is not too noticeable... It is my only complaint with an otherwise great vehicle.

It is a great vehicle. Now my complain are the stock tires, they hydroplane very, very bad. This is on 2016 sr5 premium.

Mine goes in Monday. Will post any updates if they find anything. I have very low expectations though.
