TRD Pro LIFT? - Flamers Troll A Different Thread...

If you want a little more I would do a toytec 1/2" spacer up front. Should net you about 3/4" more lift and for the rear a pair of 10mm OME rear spacers for around a 1/2" of lift.

Would this cause any safety issues on any level? I know there is a stigma about spacers, never had any before. Last lift I did was years ago by a professional without spacers.

To the best of my knowledge the only stigma about spacers is that you are shifting all the upper suspension points DOWN without actually gaining any travel. For light duty off roading it will be fine. You just aren't gaining any of the "flex" that most off roaders are looking for. Lift kits have generally had nothing more than spacers for the rear ends with longer shocks on all 4 corners for decades when leaf spring rears were the norm.

The SR5 I had initially looked at had a 3" lift and larger tires on it that the dealer was ready to give a factory warranty on. The lift kit was simply 3" spacers on all 4 corners. Not worth the $7,000 price tag they wanted for the upgrade. But nothing said it couldn't work off road.

I don't think the extra hole in that bracket in your initial picture will work if you were thinking about relocating to it. It is set too far back in that bracket to allow the lower shock mount the freedom of movement it needs.

Happy to see that, because I want the shocks, but a heavier spring, so th new kit will fit what I want a bit better.

How much is "a lot less $$$"? the suspension is $1500 with front coils, obviously more if you buy it installed on the trd pro

Bilstein'S MSRP is supposed to be $800.00.
6112 Series kit comes with Eibach 620 Springs. That is supposed to be a softer spring, if I'm wrong, someone correct me.
This is fronts only.
I think they will be priced less elsewhere.

Rears would need to be changed to something with comparable valving, like 5100's or 5160's.

3wbtracker - Great feedback. Does a 1" lift via spacers have much concern with easier to roll or lose control in unexpected situation on the road than with without? Or too minimal to matter much? Gracias.

its like spending $2k on a set of 5100s that don't adjust LMAO

really? no one spent 2k on suspension dude. those who paid msrp paid the extra (or less) on TRD wheel, Nitto A/T tires, bilstein suspension and a real skid plate...id say its about right or DAMN close to it.
for those of us that paid under msrp, we got a bunch of shit for free.

But.....but.....it's a PRO !!!

couldn't help it huh? even when it was on the title of the thread...

is this what this forum is about? even when everyone here owns the same truck?

you know...they had the all the other 4runner models parked RIGHT there next to it.. i could've just as easy asked for the keys to one of those, money wasn't an issue.

Any additional lift is a concern. But an inch shouldn't make a drastic change. I'm at 2+ now and it doesn't seem to handle any differently. I still sail it off into the corners like I used to.

yeah I watched a video on it after my comment, It is a softer spring with a firmer shock. I was hoping it would be a shock only that I can pair with a spring to use for extra weight up front, but no such luck

I will approach this differently. I would stay away frm all metods of spacers on the vehicle, no real such benefit using them. Now for heigth custom springs may be the easiest way to go. I would find iut the spring rate of the springs for the Pro and have someone match them in a larger spring. Second you could have the shock and spring cup modified to mount hogher, or find a afetr marker kit to convert the shock to an adjustable coil over allowing you to adjust it to your needs, ie adding a front bumper, winch, even a second battery to keep it level.

Other that that your options would be another shoch and spring kit, like the Icons or similar. Though I am curious about using some of the Icon parts with the TRD suspension, yet I will save that for a later thread.

As far as the Trolls, already have seen it Trolls going to Troll! Merry Christmas now!

For sure, lots of good advice and thoughts!

Doc_Fry, appreciate your "different" approach. We shall see, at this point leaving stock is still much better than my LE had. I am happy with that!

Two jokers dive in and that's what "the forum" is about? Tons of helpful info being offered for OP...

Of course there's been tons of good info! Why do you think I'm still here?
but as far as the jokers..I guess you haven't visited the other TRD threads. I mean, OP even had to say it in the title, It's not just these two jokers ;)

And I was more talking to them about what this forum is about, to them...they can't help invade every thread with "TRD" on it. sorry I threw a blanket over everyone else, didn't mean for it to come across like that.

Gotta approach it as water off a ducks back, it is a public forum! My daughter just started singing this, it's funny, and cute as hell from a 4yr old. I blame my wife...

"'Cause the players gonna play, play, play, play, play
And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate
Baby, I'm just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake
I shake it off, I shake it off
Heart-breakers gonna break, break, break, break, break
And the fakers gonna fake, fake, fake, fake, fake
Baby, I'm just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake
I shake it off, I shake it off"

I too started a similar thread when I first got my TRDP.....I had a very similar question. Was looking to slightly increase ground clearance and load carrying capability WITHOUT changing out the major TRD suspension components. I called up the folks at Toytec, had a lengthy conversation, and we came up with this:
  • Replace rear springs (which are basic stock 4runner springs) with a RCC2.0 or RCC2.0HD spring.
  • Add a top spacer on the fronts with a longer stud setup or
  • Replace the 650lb Eibach spring up front with a heavier spring.

I have added a good bit of weight to my Pro with the addition of a RTT, Gobi Rack, Sliders (to come soon) and expedition cargo. I will be at the very least adding some rear springs soon.
Hope this helps.

I think you are one of the first TRDPro guys to admit it is for looks so congratulations for having the balls to do that and not try to justify it like so many of them do. I respect that. Seriously.

Spacer lift will be fine. Problem with that is the current OEM shock could top out on the down extension and that would be a problem. If you keep it on the road you should never have that problem though. Spacers are cheap too.

One last thing: Using words like "flame" and "troll" in the title of your thread just attracts. If you have a problem with any post in this whole forum I suggest you just stick to asking the dealer questions or else grow some thicker skin. You are putting a comment on the internet in a public forum - you can't control who answers although sometimes it would be nice. There is an "ignore" feature you could use. Again, problem with that is most of the guys who know their stuff (for real not internet experts) like to joke around too and have thick skin.

Not true. The Trdp suspension is like the new Bilstein 6112 minus the extra perch setting, save for Bilstein vs Eibach springs which are both softer rated. I will try to post the TRDP suspension tech specs that a manager sourced for me from Toyota (lists additional travel, lift, etc).

Post the specs of both suspensions before you call "not true."

Not true.

Uh oh, Wizzard......how dare you disagree with 1engineer! He doesn't like that!

For what it's worth, I do agree with you. If it were my money, I'd just go with Bilstein 6112 up front with OME 884 springs on a Trail instead of the TRDP in the first place.

Also, I'm not opposed to mild spacer lifts, as I ran one on my 4th gen for about 8 years without any ill effects. Admittedly, it was really more for looks than anything else, as I wanted to have the front end a bit more "level" with the rear.
