TRD Pro or Trail Premium?

I'm gonna be switching out my 3 series for a 4runner in the near future. I really like the new TRD Pro that was shown in Chicago, and I would probably get it in that rust color.

That being said, I have the opportunity to pick up a fully loaded 2014 Trail edition for large discount. MSRP was $41K, and the vehicle only has 700 miles on it. I can get it for whatever the carmax trade-in value is... not sure how much that it yet, but it's definitely a lot less than the new TRD Pro will be.

Would you get the trail edition or would you wait for the TRD Pro? How easy would it be to swap the front grill out to make it look like the TRD Pro?

Trail Premium

From what I saw regarding the PRO wheels are 17x7 and they will not support a 285 so if upsizing tires will be a part of your build then I would go with the Trail.

The grille swap is fairly easy- satoshi mod?

They changed the grille most likely from that mod.

Go with trail. You can customize it and still be less than pro sticker price and have a more capable vehicle.

I was in the same situation. I chose to go with the TE premium for a few different reasons. One reason is time, I want a new 4runner now. In my area TE sell fast and they are hard to find, I can't imagine how hard it will be to find a TRD pro. Price-there's not much wiggle room even on the TE so I'm guessing there will be no wiggle room on TRD. Not to mention, no one knows the actual price of the TRD yet. Third- there's nothing really exclusive that you can't buy and make your own TRD, possibly cheaper.

I love the wheels. I'm glad they are 7" wide. We can run anything from a 255 wide tire on up to a 285 and the rim will be less likely to get rock rash.

Hopefully as soon as my 4runner comes in, I'll be ordering the TRD pro wheels, tires and some 5100s along with some other stuff.

I think everyone has hit the nail on the head. If you want to wait forever for the pros to come out and then find a dealer who is getting one AND THEN wait for it to show up, more power to ya. With a price tag of close to who knows... 50k?? I don't think it's worth it.

Exactly! I started looking around for a used 4Runner but clean ones are hard to find. I ended up with a 2014 TE Premium because it was on the dealer's lot and I wanted it now. I didn't want spend the time searching, I wanted to spend the time wheeling.
