TRD Pro parts

Went and picked it up today along with the needed 4 screws and 1 fastener :cowboy:

Don't get in a hurry, take your time.
You could remove your skid plate, install the part, look at what you want to cut away and use a sharp utility knife.
Did I say take your time?
Measure twice, cut once!
The photo shows the center section and where that part has been cut to allow the skid plate to pass.
The second photo shows what I cut on the side areas...

If you use the screws supplied, the skid plate will hit the center screw head once the plate has been re-installed.
Therefore, the reason I used the button head screws once I cut the filler piece.
The plate will not hit those and you will not have to remove the piece again once installed!

They're listed as being for TE models "w/ heavy duty," whatever that means. anyone know what the difference is? Besides having a 4 in the p/n in place of a 3...

Dude, yes!! Thanks for the extra insight! I will definitely take my time. I will more than likely tackle the rear bumper first and then worry about cutting this piece.

Hey man, that came OEM on my SR5.
Just look it up or have dealer look it up for my description in my Sig!
Then just trim it to fit so it won't have to be removed when you need to drop the skid, follow my write up on size/style bolts to use!

No-one stated the skid plate will not fit a 2014 SR5 without modification!!!


Only the plastic filler piece will be modified to "fill in" the space otherwise left when the TRD Skid Plate is installed in place of the OEM skid plate and its associated hardware.

EDIT: Sorry man, I'm still not tracking - I'm assuming that the intention from Toyota is that the plastic "filler" piece is totally removed, in which case the supplied hardware works and there are no fitment issues?

Ok,
Go look under your truck at the arraignment of how the OEM plastic filler piece is installed. It must first be removed to remove the OEM skid, to say, change your oil. Follow?
Now, when Toyota (or anyone else) puts the TRD plates on, they basically throw away the plastic filler piece and that leaves a opening where the plastic filler piece was removed. Follow?
The skid plate will fit a 14 SR5 with the included hardware without issue! Follow?

Now, if one decides to fill in the opening that was left when the TRD plate was installed, one must "fit" the filler plate by trimming it to fit as in the photos. Follow?
If one uses the screws that holds up the filler plate, the TRD skid plate will hit the center screw that fastens the plastic filler piece. Follow?
I change the screws to the button head screws for 2 reasons,
For center screw clearance for the skid plate not to strike that bolt and because once this little mod is done, that filler piece does not have to be removed once in place in order to remove the TRD skid plate and it fills the gap as originally designed. Follow?

Got it. Your modification is meant to allow fitment with the remnant of the plastic filler piece you cut, a part which would normally be completely removed (as in a dealer installation, for example).

I have one question. I have a 2015 Limited and after reading this thread it looks like the rear suspension may be different on the limited. If I order the full TRD suspension will I have to change out the rear springs ?

Can you tell me how the front valance and rear bumper lower cover are attached? Ordered up a set today and would prefer to bypass any snapped pieces of plastic!

Did you remove the entire rear bumper?

Sounds like the front is fairly straight forward.

Appears the Toyota engineers must get a kick back from the clip manufacturer!

Yes you have to remove the entire bumper and you have to on the front as well. Very simple, just remove all the screws/bolts and take your time with the clips.

Just did mine and very, very simple. It comes with easy to follow instructions. When installing the Garnish make sure you line up the top FIRST...I just lined the whole thing at the same time and I'm about a 1/2 cm of on one side. The adhesive is super strong and extremely difficult to remove once it's attached.
