Reading that just made me throw up in my mouth a little. You're telling me Toyota held back a Quicksand from a dealers allotment for that bulls***? What a total waste.

Eh, to be fair; the TRD Pro is just a factory "off-road starter pack". It's basically what the majority of owners start off with when getting into the off-road scene.
I mean most people throw slightly bigger LT Tires, 5100's (usually with FJ Springs), and some cosmetic stuff (plasti-dip'd parts, Satoshi Grill, ect.)
Toyota just offers it as a factory package that's under warranty. It's pricey, but it is nice that that stuff falls under the 3yr/36k; so that can add value to the price difference for some owners. Not everyone is like [MENTION=65614]Antman[/MENTION] where they dish out $40k for a 5th Gen and then dump $20k in goodies the next day.
Honestly why I got mine, I'm not an off road professional and don't have the time or means to have one vehicle in pieces while still getting to work. Plus it looks good and looks are half the battle. Prolly why you see people trying to make theirs look like a pro.

Everyone wants to feel like they are the ones "in the know" and as many people on this forum want to see the 4Runner used to its capability the fact is articles like this and this type of publicity sell more 4runners. So I look at another way since I could really care less how other people use their cars. Articles like this keep our vehicle value high, sell more 4runners, and hopefully keep Toyota producing a true BOF bulletproof SUV that I know I want on the production line long into the future. If all of the "mall crawlers" just bought highlanders the 4Runner would soon be on the path that the Explorer or Pathfinder, or even worse the Xterra. So let the grocery getters buy TRD pro's, that just means that it will continue being produced and I won't have to think about shelling out 80 grand for a Landcruiser or buying a Jeep Grand Cherokee.

so true. it's Antman's slow, thoughtful, crafty, budget-conscious approach that's made his 4Runner's evolution so interesting and appealing. super fun to watch—and learn.
drop $40k on the truck and $20k the next day on suspension, bumpers, wheels, tires, armor, roof rack, RTT, lightbars, and billet-bling components polished to a mirror's shine?... that's really kinda boring, actually.
i don't find throwing an unlimited amount of money at a thing to make it "perfect" at all interesting, in precisely the same way i don't find someone like Kim Kardashian appealing.

I recall someone on this forum basically buying a 5th gen and then basically tearing it down in the next couple weeks. Was really cool.

I don't really care much about the review, as i tend to think people who title themselves as a "blogger" don't really know how to effectively communicate. But then I read this and thought "wow, this is some next level shit":

An effective mall crawler review. It should sell a lot of 4Runners in north Texas. Even here in northern Nevada 4Runners spend more time in the malls than roaming off the beaten path.
