Coming into this drama well after the fact. It is sad. Not sure why this forum feels the need to censor valuable information based on monetary reasons. It's a public forum. The real value is in the information, not carefully curated vendor lists.

If I could suggest that threads not be removed or hidden and instead locked/edited to remove sale/business info until the situation can be rectified. Remove the shit talk. Remove the spam. Remove those stupid sponsored link browser hijackers. But don't remove the content. That's super low. Wouldn't blame others for not wanting to contribute if tons of effort just gets flushed. This is a prominent 4Runner forum and it would be shitty for it to sluff away due to inconsistent moderation policies.

Tanner is a awesome guy, based on all the interactions i've had with him.
Its sad to see moderators making exceptions for non members, then cracking down on a contributing member for selling a few harnesses. Shame on you.. It'll only be a matter of time before mods start cracking down on people speaking out about inequality... and how mods with power trips decide what goes. Bullying tactics... great.

I have a set of mirrors made by the lady... never bothered to install them. honestly looks like crap.

The fact that they deleted the instruction,“how to” threads as well as the harness threads is telling. He was free with his research and information. He wouldn’t send the instructions only after you got the harness.

Like you said, “ The real value is in the information...”
When somebody is free with their information, they are free to create their own solutions. That is a threat to those who guard their information for the possibility of profit.

If this isn’t the case, why delete all the posts?
A simple statement that the harness is no longer available could have sufficed.

Greedy Forum moderators or rule makers. I have seen this before on this and another Dodge forum where the forum is getting paid to block valuable information from DIY'ers because it conflicts with another user who decided to start a business and making money off other users ideas and info.

Infotainment.com is another example of this happening. Forum users who started making harnesses then had the moderators shut down their competition.

Defeats the whole purpose of a forum in the first place which is to experiment and create mods and share ideas and information for the DIY guy.

Pretty shitty capitolist stuff that shouldn't be allowed on a forum, denying free speech. They can delete me from the forum if they choose for speaking the truth here. I want no part of a forum who blocks the info we are on the forum for in the first place

Yeah, this is true. We’d all like to think this is a benevolent and fair environment to share our ideas and chat about our beloved trucks. But it ain’t free. Server space and hardware costs money. Internet access costs money. Software costs money. Admins cost money. Probably the moderators cost money. Who pays? The advertisers. Don’t forget that this forum is in the business to make money. And the pressure is on by the owners to make anyone who advertises on the forum in any way to pay up. Big companies pay big bucks to advertise on this forum. There are thousands of 4Runner fans just drooling over the latest after-market device and are a ready audience and consumers. But apparently the big company monthly payments aren’t enough. So the forum is now squeezing the little guys who sell their cables, switches, and pdf directions into becoming an official “vendor”.

So now here is the little guy or gal who charges a few bucks to cover their costs and materials and time to research and develop and document and personally explain via posts and PMs, the design/product/process of the modification. Mostly out of a love of the vehicle, love of the process of discovery, pride of their accomplishment and wanting to share this joy with others. And make a few bucks for their trouble. Suddenly this person is now violating this forum’s rules about being a “vendor”. No matter that it’s just a spare-time hobby for a person with a regular 8-5 job. Or that they barely break even.

If they don’t succumb to the pressure from the admin/mods their posts are deleted as punishment.

That is what we are seeing; [MENTION=150567]Old Red[/MENTION] being a prime example.

Now you know.

you can do that fine. he was just finding a was to not hack up the harness and built his own harness that plugged right into the factory one

I ran across this thread and am saddened that Old Red was shut down. I was the victim of similar "forum rules" nonsense at another forum so I created my blog and keep my main content there and under my control. Hopefully Old Red can set up a site for his info.

Holy crap, it would be a detriment to all members here if a talented generous fella like [MENTION=150567]Old Red[/MENTION] was prevented from sharing USEFUL mods that are facilitated by harnesses he develops/offers at what I guarantee is zero profit if you factor in his time an energy. This guy cares about others and is doing this to be helpful vs. others looking to extract huge profits on stuff. [MENTION=150567]Old Red[/MENTION] got into a "locking of horns" advocating for all of us not too long ago as a matter of fact with another member transplanted from TACO forums looking to charge many multiples over cost for the folding motors in a automated side mirror solution. He did that because he himself shopped the same parts and knew how little they cost and was willing to facilitate getting those to forum members on more of like a group buy scenario in combo with the harness he is developing. That is not the actions of guy doing this just to make a profit. Not to cast anyone looking to make a profit in a less than favorable light as long as everyone knows the score and those people pay the ad fees or whatever (What about the dude plugging the Sprint Booster on every other post on that thread as part of "useful advice" and accolades because he sells them... is that a registered vendor paying a cut of all his Booster sales to the forum??), but that is NOT [MENTION=150567]Old Red[/MENTION]! He has helped ME make no fewer than four DIY adjustments to my rig (things Toyota should have had there to begin with) that create daily utility and enjoyment for me and for that I am very thankful. I became a vendor and paid the fee to sell on this forum the folding mirrors kits but decided to move to 4Runners.com because it was easier to navigate just one forum than to keep multiple going and with 4Runners.com being the partner to TacomaWorld it made more since. Now to the comment of you mentioning Old Red Advocating for you and a Taco member being transplanted, well that would be myself you speak of. I will say this once, I was asked multiple times when I was going to convert my tacoma kit to the 4Runner so that the 4Runner community could have a DIY kit. After being asked by many members, I decided why not give it a try. Why not help out another community and give them something that Toyota should have given them in the first place. If you have seen how much I charge for a DIY kit it is only $335. If you have taken the time to do the research, that really is not that much. After I pay actual cost, labor costs, and shipping costs out of that $335, how much do you really think I profit out of that. So no, I’m not in it to get rich off of you guys. I don’t do this as my full time job and I will never do this as my full time job. I work for a county and government for my career! So before you want to tell someone that they are out to take you for your money, maybe you should really look into things. I offer a lot of products and very fair pricing. Which is exactly why I’m giving 19% off for COVID-19 just so people have something to do at home during this time. Give me a break.
