TRD Supercharger

I just bought a TRD supercharger and I was wondering if I would be able to throw it onto my engine that I have now which has 250k miles. I just changed the timing belt, water pump and thermostat but I want to make sure the engine can handle the supercharger. Can anyone help me with this?

Lots of people have installed the SC kit at high mileage. But there is always a risk when adding boost to any motor.

Find out each cyclinders' compression, compare to spec, should be within 10-15% of spec and each other. If good proceed to install. These engines are tough, usually the tranny takes the hit - if at all. Luck. :cowboy:

I have a supercharger in my 2010 Tundra, makes me smile daily...

If the 4Runner I bought wasn't for my soon to be 16 year old I'd consider getting one.

Also recommend doing a valve adjustment just to be safe.

Go ahead and spend $100 on a shift kit or drop the money on a valve body upgrade. I am making my trans last till I can get a Level 10 kit installed because the POs did not do anything to help the transmission out with the SC. The last one took the cake and put oversized tires on it and ran it hard. :wtf:

For what it's worth, my 4Runner has been supercharged since it had 23 miles on it. I am now at about 170k. It ran 265/75/16 tires for 110k miles, and has had 285/70/17's for the past 60k.

No transmission mods, auto tranny, everything works great.

I do have a transgo kit, just haven't gotten around to it yet. Seems like a messy job.

Installed at 215k, also no issues. As long as the engine is healthy and you're taking care of it, doesn't seem like it would be a problem.

Mine was supercharged at around 58k, it just rolled over 221k with regular maintenance, only issue i had was leaky valve covers that i fixed last Timing Belt service, not unusual with higher manifold pressure from the SC. Stock everything from day one til i got it. Running 295's and i drive it pretty hard. Just waiting for the trans to give me a reason to have it built.
Oh, also dropped in a 170* Thermostat after i got the truck, went from running 210 in the summer to around 186-188. Would keep that in mind depending on how you use the truck. I tow a trailer from time to time and the SC gets a workout.

What kinda maintenance do you guys do on the S/C? I only have about 50k on my S/C, so I haven't had to replace the S/C oil yet.

The Tundra:

* S/C Oil Change 80k-100k
* Intercooler fluid swap

Normal parts
* belt 60k
* spark plugs 90k

S/C oil change requires the S/C to be taken off so you can get to the port to replace the oil. I'll probably end up sending mine up to PSE in Edmond, OK to have them service it (and possibly port it while it's there).

When I bought my 4R at 200k miles the SC needed a lot of attention. I first replaces the nose cone and head oil. The case was still loud so I ended up replacing the read bearings as well a few weeks later. No if runs great and sounds good. I plan to replace the oil every year because I drive between 30-40k miles every year. The oil is cheap compared to gears and bearings.

Oil change around 100k according to TRD, the newer black superchargers have a drain plug that can be accessed with the blower on the truck. The gray superchargers you have to pull off to change the oil.

The shaft coupler inside the nose cone can wear out, a replacement comes with the oil change kit but then you have to pull the nose cone instead of just changing the oil. You can also buy a whole new nose cone for the black supercharger, not sure on the gray one.

Spark plugs and belt as necessary.
