TRD Wheel cleaning suggestions?

I have the matte black TRD wheels and they seem to be getting dirtier and dirtier... even after I scrub them and use wheel cleaner. These are my first matte finished wheels, so I am wondering what techniques anyone uses that works for cleaning these style of wheels.

I use Sonax Wheel Cleaner on mine. Works GREAT!! Just be sure to follow the directions and not leave it on the wheels longer than directed. If they are overly dirty, I will agitate the cleaner with a wheel brush in the hard to reach places once the cleaner turns red in color. Only stuff I have found that won't harm the finish but still gets them really clean. Tons of youtube videos reviewing the product. Also, be sure to do 1 wheel at a time until you get accustomed to using the cleaner.

Griots garage makes some good products. I've used their Wheel Cleaner on my TRDs a few times, but often forget to when I'm at the car wash and don't have water access at my house to rinse it off. Recently I just washed them with soap and water at the car wash and then finished them at home with Griots Speed Shine and a microfiber cloth. In this image I also treated the tires with their Vinyl and Rubber dressing as it is a UV protectant and leaves a nice finish.

Oh, and it may look like I don't get my wheels and tires dirty...but here is how they looked before I washed and treated them as above.

I was thinking about having a clear coat put on mine to make them easier to clean. Possibly powder coated instead of painted. About $300 out the door for both.

I'm surely no expert, but it looks to me like you should have asked about cleaning product before you used whatever you used. Finish looks damaged.

You shouldn't need anything crazy. Soap and water and mine look like new.

Were they hot when you washed them? Looks like the products you are using may be taking some of the finish off.

I just checked a section of wheel that had the appearance of a damaged finish and I cleaned it with a microfiber cloth and regular water. After some buffing it came out fine for that little section.

Everytime I wash (which is weekly) I wash the wheels and scrub them with the soap but they havent been getting cleaner and after this last time on the trails they look bad. I guess the wheel cleaner I bought at AutoZone sucks because it didnt come close to working and probably made things worse.

Good news: looks like the finish is not damaged... dulled maybe but lets see if the new wheel cleaner that was recommended to me that I ordered works.

Try this. Stuff is gentle as a baby. You don't need to mix it too strong. Best to use on cold wheels, not hot.

And a gallon has lasted me now for about 3 years.

Did you get the stuff that was recommended in the video?

I am going to first try Sonax Wheel Cleaner (recommended by TE! ), it is 4.4 out of 873 reviews on Amazon. The video on Amazon show it working pretty good.

These shouldn't require any "wheel cleaner" products, just a regular mild car wash soap, sponge, and maybe some smaller sponge/towel to "floss" grime out of the holes.

There isn't a crazy amount of brake dust coming off of our 4runners to require anything more.

I've had mine through limerock mud, sand, and clay. They still clean up like new with some effort* and basic car wash soap 30k miles later. no issues with the finish on the wheels or center caps.

*i have been known to spend 30min cleaning one wheel to get it perfect.

Simple green is all I use on my cars and I have no issues. They even clean the brake dust off my Camaro with Brembo brakes.

sonax is the BOMB!!!!! best wheel cleaner I have ever used.. I bought the $100 jug from amazon. I literally clean all my family's wheels when they come over lol
