TRD wheels...worth the price of admission?

Okki - I'm brand new to the site, this is actually my first post - hurray for me... In any event, I just picked up the same TRD wheels as you have and putting them on a '10 Limited. Leaning towards General Grabbers 265x70x17. Any considerations I should know about when making the switch?

The grabbers are a really heavy tire, I'm sure that equates to better performance offroad but onroad mileage will take a hit. A lot of peeps here are running the Goodyear Duratrac.
Just be real honest with yourself and your intentions, (read: offroad tire=noisy)
If mostly highway miles maybe a less aggressive All Terrain tire.
Good luck with your searches, I am really digging the TRD wheels, wish either I had a Magnetic Gray T4R or that they came in Black.

it's a forged alloy wheel so weight is a benefit; not sure what other benefit you are looking for in a wheel other than looks and size. You also pay for the quality of the machining etc. crappy wheels mean harder to balance which means bad (and possibly excessive) tire wear. The 17inch size means more tire options and more sidewall to work with in offroad usage when you air-down.

Goyo - In addition to looks, performance and weight considerations, something else I considered when picking up the wheels was one day I'm going to sell the rig, even if it's in 10 yrs. I thought that if I went with black (where there are some very cool choices) or something chunky it may limit the number of people willing to buy it (i.e. soccor Moms would be out).... Unless I kept the OEM 20s in my garage instead of selling and re-mounted down the line. May be a small consideration but included this methodology in the decision making process too. FYI - the other finalist was KMC XD Bully's. Would love to see them on someone's ride.
As TexasAG said... be true to yourself about what you are buying for what reason. My tire choice was predicated on mild ofroading, daily driver (city) and looks. the Discoverer ATP I run so far have not been noisier than the OEM tires (they may get noisier as they wear down), but they look the part on the truck and have been great in heavy rain. They will get their first real offroad usage next week at the FJ Summit.
Compared to the Duratracs, the Discoverers offer a warranty; the Duratracs don't.

Absolutely. They are extremely well made and IMO look fantastic. I am partial to them on Magnetic Grey Runners, but it goes with all colors.
Welcome to the site and congratulations! IMO the TRD wheels blend a cool and aggressive look while maintaining a classiness about them. Great choice!

I tried to order some Bullys few months ago. After waiting about a month, I was told they were on back-order with no eta. I got a refund. Not sure if this is still the situation, but I've noticed several vendors who previously offered them no longer do.

Heh, I'd be more likely to get them if my truck was a pavement princess because then I'd know I wouldn't scuff them up - I love the look of those wheels too much to take them on the trail. If I were to replace my stock TE wheels it'd be with beadlocks.
