[TRDPro] Bilstein 61XX leveling rings

On Bilstein's website they show the capacity of the 61XX of our TRDPs to be leveled and lifted, without the need of any spacers or such.

Well, at least for the front.

I looked at my front suspension, and indeed there are indentations on the strut to change the leveling of the suspension coil. And it seems like stock we are in the lowest setting !

Has anybody have feedback regarding using another notch on our struts ?

They aren't the same shock as you have on your TRDP, similar, but not the same. You'll notice in the comments of the video you linked, Bilstein stating the TRDP shocks were specifically tuned by TRD. Also you don't have the same adjustable spring perch settings as the 6112s.

Instead of 5 notches like the 6112's, the TRD pro Bilstein shocks only have 2 notches. They are adjustable, just not as much. If you think raising to the second notch is not enough lift, ToyTec sells a taller spring cup made just for these shocks that will give an additional 1" of lift on top of what the second notch will provide. I'm going through the same deal, but I think I'm going to just add a .5" top plate in addition to raising to the second notch.

on the TRD Pro, the drivers side is already on the higher notch from the factory. There is no more adjustment left, unless you want to raise the passenger side and bring back the lean.

For a bit more $$$, you can get springs from dobinsons to lift your ride. You'll maintain full use of your range vs adding a spacer that preloads the spring. That's my plan anyway - just thought I should share as I've been mulling over this idea for some time.

Haven't thought about Dobinsons, but was looking at 16" 700# Kings when we put a front bumper on. I'll have to check out Dobinsons, thanks.

Can you actually get a longer spring? I have the Bilstein 6112s so I had just looked into 14" springs. I would have though the spring rate alone would have lifted it more. I ordered 14 inch 700lb King coils from summit on August 23 but due to Hurrricane Harvey, it's taking longer and may just cancel it.

I just went over this with my friend... I kept telling him just get a Trail and do suspension yourself...

Didn't listen, buys TRD Pro, pulls off TRD Pro shocks within the first month.

For the price premium he paid on Toyota tax, he could have had long travel suspension with King Remote Rez with adjustable dampening but the Pro sticker was that important to him...

As to those saying it's special and tuned by TRD... All signs point to it's the same damn shock with a slightly different body... One for the OEM market with no adjustment, and one for aftermarket with adjustment.

The valving between the two is pretty much the same because it's taking care of the same duty. 6112 was designed as a large body OE replacement, similar to a 5100, but just a performance large body version of it.

I would agree, but I had an amazing deal on my TRDP !
Had an "associates discount" with my wife and it ended up being cheaper than used Trails :dancin:

Hey man, if the price is right, rock out. I would have did the same.

That said... most dealers around here know they can get away with some gouging.

The last Tacoma PRO I saw on the showroom floor, the dealer was asking $7,000 over MSRP. When I told the sales guy "common man, really... bit steep Toyota tax don't you think" he replied with a shrug and a "ehh, it will sell; if you don't want it, someone else will"... It did sit for a couple weeks, but they got their price.

I don't remember the amount my friend paid, but I think somewhere in the ballpark of $3-4k over to swoop that Pro 4Runner off the lot.

The struggle is real...

You can get springs that are 18" 900# rate or more. I'll see if I can find the site.

I definitely don't need 900lb coils lol. I just didn't know if the 16" coil would damage the shock vs the 14" coil on extension. I suppose I could just just increase the ring height for the 14". Betting it won't ride nice though.

Here's the website for custom springs. You could get away with a 16" spring with the shock spring cup on the lower notch. Then spring rate will depend on what you have armor wise.
King 2.5 / 3.0 / 3.75 Coilover Springs - Starting at $84.95
