TRDTeen '99 Limited Build Thread

Painted my skid plates today... haha
I plan on making my car's appearance look clean and crisp. Although performance and mods are great, I would rather work on the look of the car than other stuff. I used some cheap 99c paint i got from home depot. Maybe in the future ill paint it red, along with the tow hooks. I really want to paint the tow hitch, roof racks bars, and the dust shield above the rear window. Also, i want to use some "Mothers Back to Black" on the plastic piece on the rear bumper, and in front of the windshield wipers. Can't wait to make her look goooood.

I've come to the conclusion that my 4Runner doesn't like to start hot. I had a situation about a month ago where this happened. You can read that in another thread that i wrote. But it happened again today. Drove from work to get lunch with some co-workers. (10 minute drive). Then I drove back, another 10 minutes, and I had like 7 minutes to waste so I parked and just relaxed. It was time to clock in so I tried starting and it cranked, but DID NOT FIRE. I tried again and nothing. On the third time I held the key a little longer and it started up. Gonna try to check spark plugs, wires, clean the throttle body, MAF, and other maintenance tomorrow.

If its starting up fine all the other times, it shouldnt be your spark plugs, wires or ignition coils. Its more than likely your IAC (idle air control valve) that has gunk in it. My older camrys (95 and 99) have this problem pretty damn often, and its especially noticeable with heat (like mid summer valley heat). Just take it out and spray it down and take a soft brush to it with some carb cleaner.

My steering wheel has been slowly tearing. Any way i can get it re-stiched? It's all dry and cracking.

You can absolutely get a new skin for it.

I have a spare leather wheel for my 3rd gen I also plan to have restitched.

This guy does great work and I've heard of many ordering from him. It's 100% stitch on -- meant to look OEM.

How does it work? Do i get like a loner wheel while he is stitching mine?

I called around a few places and I had my steering wheel reupholstered by a guy in garden grove for $150. That was the cheapest i had found. You can't even tell it was redone. It looks oem. I think it took him about a week. It was a couple years ago so his prices might have changed.

The guys shop was called California auto upholstery. He used to have a website but I can't find it anymore.

So you take ofd the steering wheel, or he does? And do you get to use a loner wheel, or can you just like not drive your car?...

Tell you what man, I'll lend you my steering wheel if we get them done at the same time. My 4Runner has been a driveway queen lately anyway. I'll have to take off the wheel sooner or later so whatever.

I will wait for COB to do a 2wd to 4wd swap on yours as he did on his. Be lucky you have someone who is as knowledgeable with the 4runner as he is to lend a wrenching hand.

I never had shop at my high school; some kids years before I made it to high school lit the garage on fire and it never reopened.

Sounds like something some kids at my school would do. One time me and my friends filled tennis balls up with gasoline, and soaked them in it, and lit it on fire and flung it across the school. HAHA. And thanks brotha!
