Trip Computer/Clock Backlight Bad

I had to replace the clock backlight, and one of my HVAC knob lights on my 06 4Runner. I searched around for the NEO LED bulbs and happened to be driving by Radio Shack as a thought entered my mind. I was able to find replacement 12V bulbs for $1.98 for a package of 2. They installed in less than 5 minutes and are super bright. So much so I replaced every light in the climate control panel. For the green and amber lights you need to remove the "condom" and transfer it to the new bulb, otherwise the light is very bright. You will also have to trim the lead wires about 1/2".
The part # for the longer "green" bulbs and the "amber" bulb are 272-1092. They're in the area of the store that has capacitors, fuses, bulbs, etc. Probably in a drawer labeled "flashlight bulbs". Look for the #272 on the front of the drawer, then find part #1092.
I used these same bulbs for the clock display as well. They were a little small, but worked. I'm going back to see if I can find a more suitably sized bulb for those lights.

Thank you! I have read 3-4 post on this and you are the first person to list the part# from radiohack. Can you list the # of the larger ones if you find them. 1 of my clock lights is out and I figured I would do all of them while I had the panel off. Paying 5$ a pop a the stealership is a rip off.

My backlight bulb went out on the LCD display on the right side where the clock is located. I went to my local Toyota dealership and the bulb cost me $5.16. I changed it out within a few minutes and tested it and the bulb on the left side decided to go out. Now I will be making another trip to the dealership. I should have bought two!!!

Replacing my bulbs also since one went out I figured might as well get two. I ordered them from rock auto for $1.93 each shipped to my house total was $5.61

Dang. I replaced the bulb and still no go. I swapped sides with the one that was working and still the left side is not working. I'm thinking my stupid board is bad. I have yet to probe it with a meter to see if there's continuity, but I fear there won't be. This sucks. :(

I just want to throw in a thanks to everyone who gave information and links on how to fix this issue. I just bought a 05 sport edition 4wd v8 and the drivers side is burnt out. Gonna replace it this week..

Take an eraser, pink eraser and rub it on the the actual contacts the bulb goes into front and back. They get burnt / mucked up lots of times this helps ...good luck hope this helps.

Thanks! I'm going to try that again. I sprayed it with contact cleaner and rubbed it down with an eraser last week, but still no go. Arg! Dang it! I may just have to solder leads from the other contact to this side. It's driving me crazy!

Holy crap! I feel like a loser! I have not posted in forever! I finally moved back to my hometown in Southern Indiana and have been busy with work.

Soldering worked in my tests. I'm still procrastinating on doing it in the truck. Time keeps getting away from me with other projects on the farm.
