2006 Limited with 122k and no mechanical problems so far, just standard maintenance.

2005 Sport Edition V6. I bought it brand new with only 20 miles on it. I got my 1st check engine light at 100,600 miles. It was the gas cap. Bought a new toyota gas cap and reset the code and have been good so far. I have 101,600 miles currently. I've done regular maintenance and have records for all my oil changes. It runs like the day I picked it up at the dealership in Feb 2005. I plan to keep it for at least another 10 years. That's when my mortgage will be paid off. Then I'm buying another new 4runner

07 v6 130k miles no issues besides frozen lower control arm bushings thst had to be replaced to be able to get it aligned. Sorry mines an 07, why not include it and the 08?

I know you said up to 06 but my 07 at 112K and I haven't had one issue (also knocking on wood!)

06 V6. No issues

Mine is a 06 and no HG issues so far. I bought the car about 4 yrs ago when it had about 100,000 km (60,000 miles). Now it is at 166,000 km (103,000 miles)

I think he mentions that the 07+ had a new head gasket design.

I have an 06 with just under 130,000 miles and its absolutely solid. Only thing I've recently notice is the brakes acting up which I think will end up being the caliper. Other than that, regular maintenance and that's it.

Based on everything I'd read here, the consensus is that the new design was implemented somewhere in the 06/07 model years. No one seems to know for sure. Either the 2007s haven't gotten to the point where they start to fail yet or they benefit from the newer part.

2004 SR5 just clipped 180K this weekend. No issues to date in 6 years of ownership.

Im at 138K + considering the larger tires I run its probably really over 145k . No engine problems , no codes , I do regular maintenance plus some extra because I wheel the shit out of this truck. I use mobile 1 that I get cheap at walmart , I change it myself every 3,000 miles or less. I use a TOYOTA OIL FILTER very important because we have an inverted oil filter on the V6 which requires a check valve to keep the filter full . Toyota filters have this valve. It can still hit the rev limiter like a boss but I usually don't do that. Every issue I've ever had was caused by my excessive abuse like deep mud , rock crawling and deep water crossings. Most issues so far have been with the front Lower control arms and wheel bearings. These trucks are so well built that I wouldn't think twice about repairing or replacing the engine or transmission if one did happen to fail. I may have the valves adjusted just for shits at some point.
