I think pretty much everyone on here that's running a retrofit is using these. Hybryanlopez, Adio3x (doesn't have his officially installed yet I don't think), RiDE just to name a few.

If you don't want to cut apart your housings you can get the mini-D2S/H1 kit but you still have to open up the lens. The best output is with the bigger projector kits (FX-R III/IV) but you'll have better lighting than with the stock halogens whichever route you take.

Hi there, I'm usually over in the 3rd gen section. I see lots of retrofits going on over in the 5th gen crowd, who has been doing most of the installs and retrofitting? Mostly the vehicle owners or are you having them sent out somewhere?

Reason I ask is, I've been doing retrofits for a few years now and have an opportunity to grab some near new OEM headlamps for a fair price. Any Canadians out here looking for a place to get a retrofit done on a 5th gen???

Did the FX-R Bixenons on my 2010 Tacoma and they are bad ass! The 4R looks tricky with the limited space.

I used the morimoto mini ds2 with gatling gun shrouds, and had no problems with fitment whatsoever

Many 5G members have done FX-Rs. In fact, some have had the even larger LS460s fitted.

I run them for headlight/highbeam paired with sylvania silverstar ultra's in my high beam slot. The colors match really well. Given that the Yota's only have one aiming adjustment (up or down), the biggest risk in retrofitting yourself is ending up with a slanted headlight.

I have the HID fog lights too and think they're totally worth it once the snow comes down, but one of my ballasts (the high voltage transformer) just blew, so I have to deal with warranty replacement right now. Hopefully it's not a PITA.. the bigger pain is getting the ballast out because I secured it so well to the body.

Also - my lights are a few months old, so the broken ballast is just infant mortality. Those tranformers are notoriously flaky (coming from an electrical engineering background, not from a forum-jockey background). The good news is that if they break, they'll usually break in the first few months or last years before they burn out.

ive been looking for projectors for the 2011 .. how hard is the install for the fr-x stage 3?..

I did mine myself, main lights and fogs. The work isn't super hard. Not sure what to say - it's been talked about to death in other threads and forums. I used the FX-R S3 kit with E55-R shrouds and they look decent (I'll toss up photos if anyone is interested). 4300k, nice OEM look. I found JB weld steel stick to be useful when first setting the projectors into the plastic since it dries quickly and has a putty-like consistency which is great for filling the gaps between the projector and reflector housing. Just make sure to secure it with a stronger adhesive afterwards.
