Trying to decide - HELP!

Hello Forum - I am trying to decide between a 2012 SR5 with 65,000 miles and a new 2015 Trail Premium. I think they are both priced pretty well. 26,900 for the SR5 and 36,900 for the Trail Premium. I actually like the look of the 2012 better and I am confused because it has the hood scoop, sunroof, KDSS, Crawl control and a locking differential. Did they make an SR5 with those options or is it mislabeled?

Is there anything significant besides nav, leather, and a warrantee that I get with the 2015 trail premium?

I have been driving a 1994 landcruiser for the past 12 years and I love it. I will be keeping it, fixing it up and passing it down to my 2 boys for their first cars.

I am looking forward to a little more refined driving experience, but I am not ready to give up the ruggedness and reliability I am used to.

Sounds like it could have been mislabeled, see it yourself to make sure if it does have those options on it. Not sure how the '12 came, but my '15 TEP has the sliding cargo tray instead of 3rd row seating. Mixed opinions here on which is the better setup, I personally like this setup because folding the 2nd row makes the whole cargo area floor flush with no awkward hump for the folded seats.

Buy the one you'll enjoy seeing on your driveway every morning. My 0.02
 
If you can afford it go new.

Warranty plus Toyota 2 year service is a pretty cool deal.

As for the 2012...sounds mislabeled...I don't think any SR5's came with KDSS (I could be wrong). If it is mislabeled it's hard to "trust" the seller IMO.
 
+1 for newer...cuz..well, its newer

and in 2yrs, will you look down and see YOUR miles on it, or 80K, most of which had nothing to do with you...

ya know


i had a similar situation when i bought...2011 with 50K in black, or 2014 with 20k and a color i wasn't ecstatic about. i chose new, and the color has grown on me (super white).

The dealer for the new TE premium is going to run the VIN on the used one for me to see if it is labeled correctly. I am kinds surprised of all the votes for the new one. I am coming from the perspective of having owned a 1994 landcruiser for 12 years without ever having to do anything to it. I bought it with 88,000 miles and raised that to 230,000 in 12 years. It has never let me down. So buying a 2012 with 60,000 seems new to me. I'll let y'all know how it turns out.
 
I went from a 2011 to a 2015 and it just feels more solid all around. you cant go wrong either way so get what you like. Gotta remember your 94 didnt have all the electrical crap these new vehicles have so the jury is out whether or not these will make the 300k mile mark
 
I would go new. If you find the right dealer you can get a pretty good deal. Just got my Limited for $3600 off sticker.
 
I would go with new. Not sure how much you drive a year, but if you drive 15k/yr and plan on making it last to 200k miles, you will be looking for another car about 4 years sooner than if you had bought new, plus you'll get to enjoy more yrs without a car pmt (if you finance) and the full warranty (youre on your own with repairs now).

if they stay with the 26.9k number i would go for it. I bought used and have never looked back. Just make sure it was well maintained, and it will last. and you save ~9k in base price, tax savings, and you will pay it off sooner. thats what i would do. but at the end of the day its your money, do what works best for your financial situation.

either way you will be in a 4runner and thats the best part!
 
IMO I'd skip the TEP and just get a TE, if the cloth seats is what you don't like most dealers will install Katskin leather seats for about 1500-2k. Which is actual leather and better quality than stock leather seats in other brands. That should narrow the price differences a little more.

I wish your were living somewhere in New England. I am trading in my 2012 SR5 Premium with 49K to my dealer for 26K. Going to take delivery of 2015 Limited in the end of August. Never been in accident and looks like new...
Anyways, "KDSS, Crawl control and a locking differential" on SR5 confuses the hell out of me. I want to hear what more seasoned members of the forum think about that
