I have been a lurker for a couple of years and finally going to pull the pin on a runner. I was always interested in 3rd gens, but a friend of our family may be selling there 4th gen. I believe its a 05 sr5. Every 3rd gen is really rusty here, and in poor shape.
Just wondering what to look for when checking it out? Other that the basic car stuff. What I like is that they are the only owners of vehicle. And it only has 160,000 km's. Thanks for your help guys.

Well being 160000km its not bad. I would look to see what type of maintenance was perform on it. My is a 8 cyl with 133000 miles on it with no major problems.

Welcome. That's what this forum is about helping each other out with questions. Back to the vehicle I would see if the timing belt has been changed yet cause its due at 90000 miles. Btw you are making a very wise choice by choosing a 4 runner.

thanks asahi, Should I be worried about head gasket failures, I have been ready that there may be a issue with that. Or is it very few a far between thing.

it's common - ish in the early (03-05) v6's. search around, you'll see. yota issued a new HG i think in 06 BlackWorksInc can you verify that year?

I just got some more info, I thought it was a 6 but its the v8. I just assumed Thanks for all the fast replies! And its a 05

Just kidding, 4th gens are good vehicles! 100k on a well maintained unit is "breaking in" as we like to joke around here. Welcome to the forum, even if you don't stick around for a while!

-Zopperman, I will have to check. I don't know if there is anyway to see WHEN the HG was superseded (there was no TSB informing of the parts change on the technican side at least), but I will check with parts tomorrow if I get a chance.

Also... about all these mentions I get... are they like the stars you get in Kindergarten? Like... I get a certain amount of mentions and T4R.org ships me a cookie? I'm hungry... :(
