Trying to join the community

I may be combining the V6 Timing Belt and V8 Timing belt replacement times/mileage. I'll check tomorrow what TIS says to be sure.
 
my dealer quoted right at a grand, that was with the serpentine belt. I talked them down to $800, then had an ex Toyota tech do the labor for $75. Its great to get to know your techs!
 
For the Timing Belt on the V8, it should be about $800-ish for just the belt, tensioners, and water pump; normally they'll recommend other services while they're there which can get it north of 1k, if the car needs it and you can afford it; its not too bad a deal to get it all done at once. (i.e. trans flush, brake fluid flush, brakes, ect ect) But you can also get a lot of it done yourself at home if you have some tools, time, and working knowledge.

By the way, I haven't been able to verify WHEN the superseded HG became availible, parts fische doesn't tell when the new part was added.

Thanks BlackWorks, I am pretty good a diy stuff, but I seen a vid on the timing belt replacement, and I better let the pro's do that. Thanks for the post

Got to take a look and test drive it tonight. It was in nice shape, and wow the 4.7 has a lot of jam. I am pretty impressed. I thought it was just a sr5, its actually the sport edition. The only thing I don't like is that its awd not 4wd. This is a dumb question but what can I expect for fuel mileage?

I average just above 17.3 calculated. Best ever was 19.2 Worst was in the high 14s I believe.

Don't worry about AWD - You can switch it to "true" 4wd with a push of a button. Won't make too much of a difference. Just be sure all the functions work - shift to 4Lo, AND the center diff locks.
 
Its not AWD, its Full-Time 4WD which means you have only 4Hi and 4Lo, but its the full 4WD she-bang none the less. AWD implies a single stage transfercase (i.e. no lower gear options)

The V8's lack a 2WD option, but its the exact same 4WD system as the V6; the benefit is you never get caught in those situations "where I should put it in 4WD first!" and unlike many Domestic systems, the All-Time 4WD is something you barely notice under normal driving.
 
Bought a 06 V6 Sport. Does everything I want it to and more. MPG computer says 19.9 but its really down around 17mpg calculated.

One thing I did witness about the V8 AWD. Guy on a trail broke an front axle. Due to the system being fulltime the truck was undriveable.

Thats a good point, at least the wife won't have any issues switching into 4wd. Thanks for the clarification BlackWorks.
 
Making the deal on that 05 4runner today. My mechanic checked it out and was pretty happy with what he seen. The only thing he found was rear axle seals were leaking. Not a lot but its starting. I can't find to much info on it on this site. My mechanic says they are a pita, due to the fact you have to change out the rear bearings and abs ring. Thanks guys I'll load some picture when I finally have in my hands. Thanks guys

the axle seals at the diff or at the hub?
 
I am finaly a 4runner owner. Its in the shop for our provincial auto inspection. I think I got a good deal on it, but like I said before it needs some tlc and a few grand. So I am pretty stoked :guitar3:
