Tundra 231mm calipers and 5-star wheels?

Since there's not a lot of questions about Tundra brakes on here, I thought I'd ask some more.

Seriously though, since

a) there's nothing to actually fix on my 4R right now (tightened valve cover bolts, replaced blower motor resistor),

b) a lift is too expensive right now (translation: a lift is more than my wife wants me to spend :biggrin2:), and

c) my wife has complained about the brakes some,

my first official 'mod' (aside from an aftermarket HU) will be the Tundra brake upgrade. I decided to go for broke and go with the 231mm....which, I believe, BARELY clears the '5-star' wheels. Correct?

Also, IF that statement is correct, will the fact that it only barely clears cause problems down the road? In other words, should the inside of the wheels be trimmed anyways?

I'll be doing it with a buddy of mine probably in early January; if anyone's around the FLW area, I could use the help, and would gladly supply food (and beer :biggrin2:) and stuff.

Yes, 5 star wheels barely clear the 231mm calipers. And I can't see there being a problem in the future. The only thing I can picture is maybe some mud gets on the inside of the wheel and dries, but when the wheel turns, the mud will hit the caliper and fall right off. Too many people have run this set up for too long without any problems. You'll be fine...that is, unless you got the calipers that grow. :)hehe.

Yes. However:

1) You mentioned that yours clear, but you have aftermarket wheels, which I don't.
2) Unless I missed it, my specific wheel type (the '5-star' wheels) aren't listed in that thread under the list of 'wheels that will clear.' I even searched the 'reference' threads in the list of wheels that will clear, and still did not find anywhere that said the '5-star' wheels will clear.

I vaguely remember somewhere seeing that they would clear - BARELY - but I wanted to make sure.

Will probably do just that - while I have no intention of this being a pavement princess long-term, neither will I be flying over sand dunes with this, and I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Could have sworn 5-stars were on the list of wheels that fit.. oh well. At the least, the 1/4"wheel spacers put them on the list.

Well, I'll go ahead and get the spacers anyways; and then after replacing everything but BEFORE actually finalizing everything, I'll attempt to remount the wheels with no spacers, and see how it clears.

If all is well, I'll mount up, drive it around, and report back. (I'll take pics as well.) Otherwise, I'll throw spacers on there and report that back as well.
 
My 4runner has those same wheels and they fit with no modifications. The only issue with might be the spare doesn't fit. So if you got a flat on a front tire you would have to rotate the rear good tire to the front, and use the spare on the rear.
 
Couldn't I just buy a matching wheel and tire and mount it under the vehicle? (Or will that even fit?)

Sweet. I don't even care if it looks that good. (For that matter, I might just buy an extra wheel, and then try the whole powdercoating/Plastidip on that - and then do it to the other 4 wheels if I like it.)
