Tundra brake upgrade... what pads should I get.

Towing my lil popup trailer on the last 2 trips seemed to push the stock size brakes to their limits. Im making a shopping list to hopefully tackle the brakes next weekend. I have a membership to auto zone and wanted to get as many points racked up there. Im buying my Calipers from them but I read in BigFishAllDay's thread, about half way through the replies, that the auto zone pads actually wore down the rotors. I am curious there are any new suggestions on pads other than the OEM toyota pads?
Also if my list looks off let me know.Thanks.

I've had Autozone calipers, pads, and rotors for my Tundra brake upgrade for over a year and a half now. I used the Duralast Gold line of brake pads, and have been pleased so far. My advice is to stay away from the Duralast CMAX Gold pads. Back when my wife has her Jeep Cherokee, the CMAX pads were awful. They overheated and faded like no other. I swapped them out for the Gold pads, and problem solved. I've not tried the CMAX pads on the 4Runner as I didn't want to risk it.

There is a set of oem pads you can get from the dealer for 56 bucks and they come with the shims already installed. I think they are from the sequoia but they are the same pads as the tundra but cheaper for some reason.. Ill try and find the part number but when it comes to pads OEM is the way to in my opinion, especially if you can afford it.

edit so these are the same pads just ceramic and not semi metallic like the more expensive tundra pads that require shims to be ordered as well. didnt know that before hand when I bought them but they are about half the price.

Hawks for me, but if you want dusting to a minimum, go with OEM.

I have the Bosch quietcast 231's on both Runners. Amazon.com: Bosch BP976 QuietCast Brake Pad Set: Automotive

They're non-chamfered like the OEM ones. Love 'em.

Yes on the shims. Only one set. 2 pads for each side. Pins and hardware should be with calipers.

OEM for everything but NAPA for calipers. Amazing difference. Whatever you do, don't go cheap. $ saved now can mean $$$ spent later or worse. One of the best mods out there.

Master Cylinder upgrade?

Anyone upgrade their master cylinder when they did the brakes?
I have to admit Im going to take this project to my mechanic, just too busy with life right now to do it myself.

I did not, but will say you may have to rebleed the brakes after about 500 miles or longer. Fellow member Singtoe showed the differences between the brake pedals of a Sequoia and the 3rd gen 4runner that can account for further brake travel of the pedal before stopping after doing the Tundra upgrade.

I rebled mine and the excess travel was gone.
