Tundra coils/Bilstein 5100/OME lift questions

Alright, I finally decided what to do. I scored some OME 890 coils from another forum member (thanks, dirtbike250x) and bought the rest of the parts as needed. Here's my final parts list:

Tundra yy/yb front coils, bought a used set (75k miles) locally: $67
OME 890 rear coils, used (15k miles) from forum member: $90
Bilstein 24-188265 Tundra front shocks from eBay seller "hardpartsfast": $89 each, $178 for the pair
Bilstein 24-100144 Tundra rear shocks from same eBay seller: $68 each, $136 for the pair
Monroe 907926 spring isolators (2), plus Monroe 904900 strut mounts (2), all for $51 from RockAuto.
Daystar KU08007BK 3/4" shock eye bushings for rear shocks: $7 for the pair from Amazon seller "Trends-Auto"

Total for parts: $529. I spent a lot of time trying to find the best prices I could, so I feel pretty good about the money spent.

I decided on the new strut mounts (top plates), just to save some time and hassle with disassembling the stock struts to get the stock 4Runner top plates.

Assembled these bad boys over the weekend. I set the front Billies on the 2nd-to-bottom perch, so hopefully that will match the 890 coils in the rear. Now I just need some halfway decent weather so I can get everything installed without freezing my butt off in the garage.

Thanks for the info. Planning on doing the same lift soon too. How is the ride so far?
Also, I watched Speedy's video and see you have a couple parts he didn't use. I'm going to have my mechanic install this (lacking garage, equipment, and really... skills and patience) so I won't buy the new strut mounts. What is the shock eye bushings for? Is it required for the lift?

I have the same lift.

We need different bushings, the 3/4 ones to work with our trucks. Takes 5 seconds to push them out and pop in new ones.

I am on OME 890s in the rear, and the ride quality of the truck is great! I am very happy I went with this setup. Also just got 285/75/16s on a few weeks ago!

+1 to what Supermoney said. I still like the ride, although it is my son's DD so I don't drive it very often. The bushings that come pre-installed on the Bilstein rear shocks are not the correct size, so you need the 3/4" ones.

I'm still looking ahead at getting some 285s installed on my rig. Supermoney - what kind of tires did you go with? Looks great!

Damn that looks good! Any rubbing from those tires? Also, which perch setting do you have on the fronts?

Thank you, I got the just released BFG All-terrain KO2s.

As you can see they have a new sidewall design which looks much better than the old KOs.

If I find used springs with the original struts from a Tundra, I presume the Bilsteins from the factory are not adjustable? I'm not too worried about it since I figure used strut assemblies will have some compression/sag already, but I just wanted to confirm since I intend to do this lift as cheaply as possible and re-using the struts makes me wallet happy.

Front perch is at the 2nd setting, as others have said going up to the 3rd without a bumper/winch isn't worth it. And I am happy at this perch because the truck sits pretty even with maybe a slight amount of rake which I am happy with.

Yes it rubbed a bit on the front bumper, you just trim a bit on the inside, and then on the rear of the front wheel well you just need to pound the pinch weld over.

No more rubbing!

Just gathering up the final parts. Thank you for this thread. It's been very helpful.

I have the front trd coils, rear ome 890 coils, 5100 adjustable tundra front struts, and 5100 4runner rear struts. All I need now are the Monroe spring isolators for the front and 3/4" eye bushings for the rear. Are both of these necessary for a 97? I've read there are some slight differences (overall) between the 99-02 and the 96-98 3rd gens and the earlier 3rd gens. Does anyone have this setup on an earlier 3rd gens like mine that can confirm?

Yup need them.

What year/model Tundra did you get the YY-YB coils from? I was going by SS recommendation of a 2003-2004 TRD/off-road 4wd doublecab but every yard I called with those had RED/BLUE, etc..
No YY-YB coils...

Is suspect red/blue are the shock/strut colors not the coils.

No...3 different places had RH side as red/blue and the LH side as red/yellow...

I called another and asked for the 2001 access cab 4wd off-road and BINGO, it was yy and yb....

That info about the 2003-2004 double cab needs to be updated on Sonoran Steels website..

Those are valid years. The possible years are '00-06.

I've seen it posted that any access cab has them, but I've seen several that didn't. Only the TRD package Tundras are the ones I've seen with yy/yb.

I have all my parts ordered and just waiting for my front billies to come in. Once i have those I'll be dropping them off the shop to have them install the lift. Besides letting them know which coil goes where and the perch setting I want, is there anything else I need to let them know. I'm wondering if i should just send them the link to Speedys Instructional video.

Got my Billies, tundra coils and OME 906 coils in. Only drove it for 15 miles but can already tell the ride improvement. Up next, wheels and tires.

What a difference tires (265/75 Duratracs) and rims (Ion Alloy) make! With the settings on first perch and 906s in the rear, there was slight rubbing on the front right fender flare when I make left turns. Shaved the corner off (front inner side of fender flare) with the dremel (less than 1/4 inch removed) and no rub now.
