Turbo 4runner mud fun

Took the 4runner out to play today off the pavement for the first time turbocharged, was very pleased.

Thanks, cost is at about $500 so far, so fun to drive, did awesome on the big hills and rocks too, just waiting for my friend to Email me the video.

For a street setup I guess it would be okay, wasn't really that fun on the street for me, too big of tires, not geared and extra weight. I hit some sand and steep hills where it got stuck before and just powered through it this time and didn't spit the driveshafts either.

I'm not gonna lie... It sounds badass to a person that doesn't have it. But, I bet you get pretty tired of hearing it sometimes. It's loud for sure. Cool video, though.

You are correct, there isn't any exhaust after the turbo yet, but there are plans to do it like this. We just need a plasma cutter to do bumpers.

We don't have a dyno anywhere close, 120 miles away, but it doesn't get stuck where it used to, E-locker is next.

With this set up, I wouldn't run an E-locker. I don't think it is strong enough to handle high speed, high power output.

My opinion, i would run a True Trac (torsen type) diff. It will give you traction on the street when you need it, in the mud and on the trail. The nice thing is that it is on all the the time and it is transparent.

The second choice is an Aussie locker.(cheapest solution) It is on all the time but not as transparent for day to day driving. But would be the first choice if you spend a lot of time with one wheel in the air as the true trac won't work. Aussie locker has a solid warranty too.


Just my opinion but the e-locker will blow up with the type of driving you are doing just based on your vdo's.

I helped clownmeat build this turbo setup and i did most the video. It is the same idea as an STS kit but they dont make one for a 4runner so we made a setup that works realy well for the runner. and actually seeing and hearing it in action is something else. it is prety bad ass rolling through town and watching all the heads turn. I just need to save money so i can do mine. LOL

i love this sound its epic, i keep thinking there is some powerstroke or cummins in the background somewhere that will come in to view in just a sec, but then nope, its the 4runner... i love the small turbo and sound it makes, the lack of turbo lag and every thing that goes with it. awesome work guys!

if you want more traction yeah go for either a truetrac or an ARB(same cost as a E locker retrofit, and way stronger).
