Turn signal - linked with break light??? - help!

Hey there,
I have been lurking on the forum for a long time but finally came across something I couldn't find anywhere else.

I have a 2000 Sport model and I recently changed the rear turn signals.
Ever since the left turn signal goes on whenever I hit the brakes.

It is driving me crazy! I have tried replacing the brake and turn signal bulbs with no luck.

The brake over powers the turn signal, if the left turn signal is on and then you press the brake it will stop flashing and hold solid until the brake is released.

Likewise if my foot is off the brake and I turn the left turn signal on it flashes the brake lights with the turn signal.
The Right turn signal operates normally.

I don't understand how they have become linked? any help would be greatly appreciated!

No, what would that entail?

I have replaced the turn signal bulbs and tail lights twice.
They all work fine other than being linked together.

I think I had that before when I had a bad ground in the tail light harness. You may have broken off the ground wire thats behind the tail light, there is one on either side and it a green wire that grounds to the body.

second the ground^ I had a finicky thing like that too.

think they are on the same fuse as well because when mine blew i had no brakelights or turn signals

It could be that this grounding point is good (this one is on the passenger side, but there is also one on the driver's side (left)), so it could be you have a bad body grounding point up by the battery as well.

Have you checked the third brake light bulb?

When the 3rd brake light is burned out, it can do wacky things with the brake/turn signal circuit.

Might also be good to check the trailer brake light converter box (if you have one)

Simple: Disconnect the tow wiring from the main wire harness.

The ground behind the riverside taillight was loose, and the trailer break harness also seemed to be affecting it also.

I don't tow anything so I just removed the trailer break harness, tightened the ground and everything is working fine now!
