So after installing my trail gear tube bumper it left me with out a place to install my turn signals upfront. I was cheep and didnt want to spend any money on new turn signal housings so i decided to zip tie the old ones onto the bumper and run them like that for a bit. (hated the cheep ziptie look)
by doing some research i found out that tacoma guys like to install their their turn signals inside the running or aka parking lights.
so tonight i made a write up of the simple process.
It took about 30 min from taking the running lights of to installing the new turn signals in them and putting the tools away.
I used a high speed dremel with a rotary bit for plastic and the pencil wand for better control. Safety glasses as well.
I happened to have another tacoma that im parting out that already had these done to its running lights. but of course those light housings do not fit our 4runners.
If you look close you can see the 1st hole i made to copy the tacomas housing. but quickly realized that it would not work because our housings are much thinner and the bulb bottoms out before the socket will touch the housing to twist and hold it in place.
Then after :doh: i started looking for another spot to drill into my light housing.
found this place.
where the drain/vent line is, perfect!
I started by drilling a small hole about the size of a dime, then slowly enlarging and test fitting with the bulb and socket, eventually landed with this much cut out. (notice the side is cut out also)
:rockon: time to test fit on the 4Runner and see how it works.
Then with other lights on: you can see the amber flash from the reflector. but i will change bulbs to amber for better contrast.
Good enough for the girls i date.
