Turn signal question

I have always thought it was strange that the 4runner turn signals are on the bumper instead of next to the headlight. So I got curious if anyone has attempted to re-wire the turn signals so that the corner lights function as the turn signals instead. Sorry if this was previously discussed, I admit I didn't really search to see if there was something on it already.

More than a couple of us have done what you want in various ways. After searching the options and really great write-ups I used a separate pair of sockets and bulbs. I also put in side markers. Both were easy enough. Build thread below. Post 2 will tell you where to find info and pics.
