Turn Signals out on 98 T4R - Not fuse

Hey guys,

I have a 98 T4R and yesterday my turn signals stopped working. Both quit at the same time and there is no activity on the instrument panel when the turn signals are activated either (no flashing green arrows, no sound that the turn signal has been engaged).

I had assumed it was a fuse but after replacing the turn signal fuse (which was not blown) there was no change. I have searched the forums, but have been unable to find a solution. Does anyone have any ideas?

Also, if it helps, I have not recently done any electrical or mechanical work to the vehicle.

sounds like you lost a ground or your turn signal flasher crapped out.


If it is your flasher, pm me as i have used fuse block with flasher for sale. Jut plug and play installation.

Thanks Singtoe. How can I check if I lost my ground? Would it be a separate ground than the battery ground?

Ground faults are very funky, but I am having a hard time imagining one that would kill all four lights and the dash. Problem pretty much has to be within the fuse box or the stalk. I'm voting flasher. Here is the diagnostic:

Check your new fuse for continuity, and check for power TO the fuse. I've seen a couple threads where the new fuse or bulb turned out to be dead. Is the hazard switch dead, too? That would rule out the stalk.

Logical troubleshooting beats asking the internet for guesses (almost) every time.

probably the stalk dude. Mine went bad, but it was the headlights. the terminals lost contact internally. My buddies 4R had a bad stalk too. Probably your issue as well

If the dash bezel is out of the truck, and as a result the hazard switch isn't hooked up, would that explain the turn signal not working?

New deck install didn't go well tonight (dash bezel not wide enough for the new deck, needs trimming), so I put it back together less the bezel and now I have no turn signals, and I'm scratching my head.

Yes, if you do not plug in your hazard switch, your signals will not work.

Ya, I just popped the hazard out of the dash and plugged the hazard switch in, that fixed my turn signal issue.

Yes, if you do not plug in your hazard switch, your signals will not work.

I know this is pretty old, but this right here saved me a world of trouble tomorrow, trying to figure out why in the world my turn signals aren't working. I did some work on it today, and didn't replace the hazard switch when I put everything back together.
