Nice. Yeah looked into the HAM stuff and think I’ll go that route eventually. I started to study then life got in the way. Not that your going to beat it on a trail, but my metaltech sliders paid for themselves twice already in parking lots. My young one gets in raised but I don’t think you have that problem. Lol

I had HAM and CB in my XJ and used them both in one way or another. CB was killer on the trail as everyone had it. The HAM was great for commuting to Central Oregon with the group. I remember one day pulling out of my driveway and getting a hold of CudaTerry as he was cruising through Sandy. We chatted the whole way to Madras where we met up.

I don't care for the look of sliders on these rigs and don't intend to get in situations where I need them but stupid things like parking lots, shopping carts, little car doors, etc make me want them. Half my kids are driving their own cars and the other two are big enough to climb into any rig. ROFL.

I've glanced at sliders and can't believe what they are going for. The ones on my XJ I thought were the best option out there and were only like $220 shipped. That was many years ago but still. I can't see $500+ for sliders in my near future.

Right! I don’t wheel with anyone really anymore and through my hand helds in for snow runs, thinking that the ham would rock for emergency stuff.


Yeah the sliders for these things are nuts. But the scrap on the rub rail was proof enough that the cost was worth it. You think the sliders are priced high? Look at bumpers. Nuts. But the complexity warrants some of the expense for sure. Seeing how much work went into mine... I was happy to pay it as it was t like my past rigs. And I have more money than time these days....lol

Super minor mod just because I had it.

I've had this hitch cover for a long time. It was on a couple of my last rigs but never got the chance to put it on my very last truck. Dug it out this morning, media blasted real quick, and just threw a coat of Krylon on it to make it white. It had been Graphite Black Cerakote it's whole life up until today.

I like what you have done with your rig so far. How are you enjoying your lift so far? I just got a TRD FJ kit and want to end up at about 2/1 lift so I’m thinking of going the same way you did.

As far as suspension specifically I don't believe I'd change anything from what I've done. Sometimes I think I should have saved a lot of cash just going with 5100's and spacers but then I drive it and it reminds me how much nicer it handles this way.

It's pretty subtle looking with stock wheels and tires until parked by a stock height one. Im excited for the new wheels and tires to get here because I know how much it's gonna change everything instantly.

Good to hear. I was really considering doing the same, 5100 or Doninsons, but when my dealer had this the FJ kit in stock I jumped on it. Shouldn’t be much more then the kids I was pricing. Now I need to decide on a rear coil and order my front spacer.

ROFL. While I'm confident enough in my marksmanship skills to know my impacts would safely be on the "Target" I also believe in the rules of firearms safety as well as the life rule dealing with stupid games and stupid prizes.

On a semi serious note, despite using small subsonic rounds in a very safe environment I still took the time to ensure the "Target" was squared up to my position with a slight downward angle.

I asked for the keys to the red loaner car so I could grab dinner....

Turns out there was an issue with the new wheels not fitting so for whatever reason it sat there with different size wheel/tire configurations front to back. Said it was too far out of the allowed tolerance to drive with the AWD system.

While we are getting old, you will appreciate not having to regear and deal with all the other issues these larger tires cause. Amanda wants to move up to 285’s next to around and I’m dreading breaking by down beadlocks and doing a regear. I’ve added enough wait at this point it needs gears now. I’m putting it off until next year hopefully.

I'm digging that offset. Looks good with the wide stance and lift, even with running the 265s. I hope to keep the 265s with a similar lift as well.

I've also been spoiled with the peace of mind over the last couple rigs that my spare tire would actually fit and work if needed. That is kind of nice.

I've also been averaging about 22 MPG with the stock wheels/tires. This setup should weight right about the same, give or take a couple pounds, so hoping to retain some decent fuel economy.

Also, I have to keep reminding myself this isn't a go play in the rocks rig. Keeping it a reasonable height and such will help me resist that "I can go up that" temptation.
