Two tone Trail rims

Hey everyone,

Long time lurker first time poster. In case anyone is curious as to what the trail rims looks like in two tones (black/white), here you go. With limited car knowledge I figured I'd start with plasti-diping my wheels. I like the way it turned out but to be honest I probably wouldn't do it again, between cleaning/taping/painting/waiting for paint to dry/taping/painting/waiting for paint to dry/re-taping to fix over spray/re-painting/waiting for paint to dry, it all took a lot longer than I thought it would. But either way first mod done

Those wheels will never look good with those bicycle tires on them. Get those off the trail ed stat! Then plastidip that silver ring. You dont need to tape. Just spray that plastidip right on.

Hey guys, thanks for the comments. Some aggressive tires would definitely help, once it was all said and done and put on the car it appeared as though the tires got smaller, so beefier tires would probably help the look.

As for the ring I guess it's a little hard to tell in the photo but it's not actually silver it's white. Either way it'll stay on until winter time and I'll decide what to do with it then. I originally thought about painting the whole thing black but decided to do something a little different. At least now it's easier to pick out from a distance and all the soccer mom 4runners around town Definitely not the last modification just the first.

Just noticed that you're in Calgary too. A friend of mine plasti-dipped the wheels on his LC and they got pretty beat up over the winter from breaking through ice on the trails as well as the gravel and other crap they put on our roads.

If you ever want to get that TE out on the trails let me know...

Hey Intruder, I plan on making the trail rims my winter tire rims anyways so odds are it probably won't make it to the first snow fall. But I will definitely take you up on the trail run, as soon as I get better tires that is. Went to test them out in McLean creek one day and without knowing how bad any of the trails were I decided to just play it safe by driving through some muddy tracks, well I bottomed out and got myself stuck and had to walk to the road to get someone to pull me out, probably the most fun I've had in the car so far! Having no idea what I was doing probably didn't help, but still enjoyable.

plasti dip fail

nice job on the rims... today I just attempted plasti dip on my front and back Toyota emblems. It didn't work out so great, I did a bad tap job and on a lot of the letters there was a little lint/fuzz looking stuff... thank god plasti dip is so forgiving and I easily rubbed it right off. I'm glad I didn't attempt to spray paint the emblems... Considering my painting skills on the emblems didn't work out, I think I'm going to have my trail rims powder coated black.

From what I noticed it's best to either do it in a closed garage or on a day with no wind. My rims have some dust/fuzz particles but not enough for me to re-do them. In the long run powder coating the rims might be the best idea.
