two versions of stock 3-spoke wheels?

The buyer's guide shows there are 15" and 16" versions of the stock 3-spoke alloy wheels for the 3rd gen. Did certain years or option packages come with a certain size?

I'm buying a 99 SR5 V6 4x4 5-speed unseen and I know it needs tires. I'm trying to figure out what size wheels it has so I can price them and possibly order before the Costco sale ends Sunday. I probably won't be able to get the seller/dealer to check for sure until Monday. Would this truck definitely have one or the other? Would a picture help?

There are two split spokes that look identical but are different sizes, 15 inch and 16 inch.

You can ask the seller to find out the size of the wheels but I guess that isn't an option. The door jamb is not a good indication since dealers or ports could install the larger wheels if the buyer wanted. 15 inch wheels were more common in GA since most 3rd Gens sold there were 2WD. Your's is 4WD so you really can't confirm. Put up some pics.

Well since it could be either one, I'll just have to wait to confirm for sure.

I'm guessing it has the 15" version, since the Firestone tires on there now apparently aren't available in the factory 16" size.

You can't get the seller to tell you what tire size is on the truck? That's kinda sketchy.

Looks like it's sitting on 265/70R16's to me. FWIW, Costco doesn't have much selection and their pricing isn't spectacular either. I would try Discount Tire.

It's not that he won't tell me the tire size, but I believe his small dealer lot is closed weekends. I'll call him tomorrow and see if he can go out there and check this weekend. Thanks guys for the help.

Don't go by that.

The 15 inch alloys could be had on Base and SR5 models with V6 or I4 or 2WD or 4WD. This applied from 96-02.

The 16 inch alloys were available on Base, SR5 and Limited's whether 2WD or 4WD. The only exception was in 1996, where the Base/SR5 2WD could only be purchased with 15 inch wheels and there was no Limited 2WD that year as well.

I'm pretty sure you 4Runner has 16's.

Cause of a bent wheel, I had to recently search for a used one. The question that was asked of me twice was if the lugnuts had washers or were the cone type. I didn't remember and had to go out and pull one. My 16's were the washer type. Made me wonder if the 15's were cone type.

That is another variation from what I've heard. I hear that the cone style types came only on Tacoma's and have the TOYOTA spelled on the center cap in actual letters as opposed to the round T logo.

The washer style types came on 3rd Gen 4Runner's and some Tacoma's. I'm assuming that the cone style types were dealer/port installed and the washer type style was factory installed.

Confirmed 265/70R16 as you guys suspected. Costco currently has the best price for the particular tire I want (Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza), so I'm going to order them tomorrow while still on sale. The truck should be delivered in about a week.
