txbonds 15 4Runner Trail Edition thread

Ran the truck up through the smokey mountains last weekend and noticed the large temp swing between the transfer case and transmission pan. At times I saw as much as 40 to 50 degree differences between them. Top temp on either only hit 185 degrees with the average being down around 140. Engine temp rocked steady at 184 though.

I'm hopeful that starting Friday I can start to tackle the radflo install and my rocker slider install. Will update with pictures if I do. Any install tips appreciated.

Merry Christmas everyone.

Sure be curious to see what you'd get when towing. Don't like not knowing what that tranny temp is when something's holding on to your hitch.

Thank you for this!! I tried getting the pan temp code to work at least a dozen times with no success. I just went out and changed that 1 to a 0 and I now have both temperatures working. I'm excited to use this next time we tow a trailer.

I'm assuming you meant torque convertor and not transfer case?

185 is still within reason, and 140 is on the low end of the typical desired operating range which is great for extending the life of the ATF.

Yes, torque converter. Fixed it. Thanks.

For some reason I keep wanting to say transfer case. It's the TC initials I guess.

It's time!!!!!!!!!! Finally!!!!!!!!!! :frisky:

Got my Mule relocated to my other garage for the next few days so that I could get the 4runner into the garage to start on the suspension.

Mule crammed up against the wall with all the typical garage junk piled into the back to make room. :eyebrows:

Now time to try to wrap my head around the instructions regarding how best and easiest to do the install with KDSS using only my floor jacks and jack stands.

Don't know how I've missed this. Sub'd and can't wait to see the goodies installed. After seeing what you did with your 97 this is gonna be gooooood.

Thanks man. Yours was my inspiration for the tires and rim choice.

Any idea where to find the KDSS install instructions for lift on the front? The radflo site has both PDF's as the Non-KDSS version attachment for the 2010+ install. They only sent me a rear picture install guide. Just curious.

Wish I could help but I don't have the KDSS system on mine. I don't remember if my Toytec instructions had stuff for KDSS or not. You may check their site and see if it has anything useful.

Thanks. Didn't see anything.

I have the rear KDSS pdf from Radflo that has nice pics. I have a worded instruction from Steve at Sonoran but was hoping to find a guide with pictures to use with it for reference. (Pictures make it easier for me sometimes when I hit snags). Will keep looking as I plan to start in the morning.

sandcrawler lol yep true, true, you don't need to remove them at all! I opted for the slathering with anti-seize.

Over night and this morning I studied a bunch of different sources for lift install with KDSS. I think I have my angle of attack figured out.

So for starters, I removed the plastic air dam, front factory skid and the mid factory skid just to make things easier to reach. Then I chocked one of my rear tires and set parking brake.

Jacked up truck and inserted two heavy and tall jack stands. Was surprised at how high I had to lift the factory truck suspension to get the front tires off the ground. The stock truck seems to have a lot more articulation than my 3rd gen had.

Snapped a few shots of the new underside for the heck of it. Still pretty clean given the 4,500 miles on it. Sorry for the iPhone pic quality.

Next up is getting the front sway bar prepped and then onward with the suspension swap. More updates and pics to follow.

Really appreciate you taking time to post photos and details of your upgrades.

No problem. Hopefully it helps someone else down the road. :)

This go round, I decided doing everything on my prior truck(s) manually was no fun so I am using air tools as much as possible. Makes a world of difference on the disassembly phase but will use my hand tools and torque wrenches for reassembly.

Passenger side upper ball joint removed, as well as the 3 hose bracket bolts to allow easier movement of the knuckle and lca.

Passenger UCA removed. I must say getting the bolt out of it was a pain in the rear. There is a ton of stuff on my 15 TE on both sides of the UCA bolt that makes it hard to get that sucker out. Working now to get the Camburg arm assembled and then will get the coil over swapped out before putting the new UCA in. Will post pictures soon.

Camburgs almost ready to install

Just got the passenger coil over pried out and took a shot of it next to the Radflo for comparison
