UPDATES:
Picked up my grand parents table built in the 1950's for our cabin. Had been in storage the last 25 years. Cleaned up to make a really, really nice garage project and hang out table.
Made some very quick shuffles in the garage today ahead of schedule to get the 4runner back in. I had planned to get a little more organizing done, but didn't get a chance and had to just shove stuff where I could to free space. There isn't a ton of extra room with the table in here, but there is more room than you would think even with the cabinets and work benches surrounding 3 of the walls.
That said, here is the reason I had to get the truck pulled in.............
Just ordered a bunch of parts to replace bearings and seals on both rear sides.
Not fun and not in my rebuild plans this soon but it is what it is. On a more positive note, the squealing sound I mentioned a post or two ago turned out to simply be a lose belt. My tip to anyone replacing belts is to come back and recheck tightness again after a few weeks.

Yeah, I know.
After tackling the front press work earlier I've decided I can tackle the rear bearings and seals myself too. I have all the bearings, seals, retainers and some new brake shoes in bound. Also ordered one of the durasolid tools to use with my press and a pressure bleeder to bleed the brake lines afterwards.
Should get parts next week to get started.

I had to make a tool to do that job. Are you aware of the tool that attaches to the stud plate so you can press the retainer off?
You also have to make sure you do not smash the outer seal, you have to press the retainer down, not the hub flange down.

Yeah, it looks like fun. This is the tool I ordered AXLE BEARING PULLER TOYOTA
In conjunction with a bearing separator/puller set to pull the abs ring off I'm hopeful to be able to do it all myself.

I was going to try to build one but we couldn't find the materials at any of the local box stores (largest pipe local was 1.25") and I didn't feel like going looking for a machine shop that might have them so I went the easy prepackaged route.
The videos I've watched make it look easy enough with the tool but having done the front tells me it will probably be a pain anyway. I did go ahead and order 2 seals per side and that's probably not enough based on how many I messed up doing the front diff axle seals. LOL.

It's funny, I'm about to paint my truck finally. I've had the paint for a year or so. I was convinced that I shouldn't paint it, but now I've started sanding it down haha. I really liked that you painted your hood black, not everyone likes that. But I like it a lot haha

I had an 01 white land rover with 4 hella ralley 4000s on the roof rack and that was my first inspiration to black the hood. What I discovered is that it reduced glare on bright sunny days too.
On the rover it was a sheet of matte flat black vinyl a shop put on but on the runner I decided to paint for a couple of reasons. Mainly for the cheaper cost as it was pricey to do vinyl based on current quotes. Secondly because the vinyl before, even in flat black, had a sheen to it,that was reflective.
I used a small can of rustoleum flat black paint with a small micro foam roller. Got it from lowes. I took a scotch brite pad and scuffed the beige paint and taped it off with painting tape and then rolled away. I tried to get it as smooth as possible but in the end I like the texture it has. Also by doing lots of coats at once it ended with a thick finish that has a tiny bit of a grab to it like rubber does. Combined with the texture it holds dust and dirt which helps to further dull the surface and reduce glare.
Won't appeal to those that want a fresh waxed clean look but for practical use it's great.

Started on leaking rear passenger side seal this morning. So far I've only needed the following tools: 10mm open wrench, 12mm & 14mm socket/ratchet, needle nose pliers & lug wrench.
Front wheel chocked
Wheel removed
Jack stand under frame and under axle for safety
Drum removed. Needs to be cleaned still.
Brake cable removed
Decided not to pinch my 17 year old rubber brake line, so I simply attached a clear drain hose to the brake line to let it drain. Will refill and bleed the whole system once done.
Unbolted the axle and pulled it out. slid drain pan under axle to catch diff fluid as well.
Axle waiting on cleaning and then press work
Next up is getting the press setup

Lots of wiggle in the backing plate on the axle which means the bearing was pretty much shot. Good thing I'm replacing it all so the rear will have fresh bearings just like the front.

You should have a new teflon line on there from the lift kit.

You're right, forgot all about that. The stainless line you sent me is on there. Either way, I'm just going to keep going and then just bleed everything with new fluid. It pretty much stopped draining at this point so it isn't all coming out but probably more than if I had pinched line somewhere.

Ran into a bit of a pickle. The Durasolid tool doesn't fit over the taper of the axle shaft, so I've spent the day working to improvise. This is obviously a defect in the tool as it is supposed to fit. I'm going to have to find a machine shop with a lathe to take about 2/10 of material off for about 5" of the inside of each end.
In the mean time, I've managed to get the parts off the axle, and have pressed the new bearing into the bearing housing.
