They are not as good as the FZJ-80 Tokicos. The 80s have more travel.

The 5th gen ones are 1 inch shorter extended and at least an inch longer compressed. He was complaining that he didn't have hardly any down travel the last time we went wheeling.

If I were you, I would get $80 new land cruiser ones before I would get $60 almost new 5th gen ones.

Edit- I'm not sure about the ride quality. Both my LC shocks and his 5th gen shocks are partially blown too lol

Free is cool, but I'm more after the best fit for what I want. Sonoran steel talks about the Tokicos being much better than the LC Tokico blacks for highway handling- implying to me they are valved tighter than the 5100. Curious if your buddy has much to compare them to with the same coils.

I run the tokicos with LC coils and they are a bit stiff empty but handle weight really well and highway is awesome even fully loaded. You cant even tell she is loaded down in the back compared to empty.

I'm not sure what your question was in that first paragraph. I don't know how the 5th gen Tokicos compare the the LC Tokicos. I do know they are shorter than the LC, but not sure if the valving is different or not. That's what I'm wondering.
You say your Tokicos are a bit stiff empty- you sure that is the shocks? Have you had other shocks with the LC coils to compare them to? Just curious if much of that stiffness might be coming from the coil itself, as opposed to the shock. If you can't tell when it's loaded down VS empty, that tells my the LC coil has a very high spring rate, and is likely the cause of it being stiff when empty.

"Not as good" only because they have less travel? The LC shocks have TOO MUCH travel for me. They are the same length as the Bilsteins I took off because my up-travel sucked.
Woah woah woah, at least an inch longer than the LC shocks when compressed?! That doesn't add up at all. That would be a really long shock body for not much travel at all.
Maybe I'll have to post in the 5th gen section and see if anyone knows the specs on them.

You might be right on the coils. When I say stiff unloaded they can feel pretty stiff when hitting speed bumps or cracks in the road. Do fine on anything else. Once loaded the speed bumps and cracks are not as bad.

Ive been in a Billy OME and Billy LC setup. The LC/Billy setup felt softer than my rear. The OME billy setup felt 100 times stiffer and he can barely keep his truck on the road going down washboard.

I can stay ahead of everyone in my offroad group when taking the washboards. The SAS guys have no chance of coarse. LOL

I think ride feel can be somewhat subjective. I have SS 1.2 rear lift with Tokico shocks and don't find them very stiff. I hear that the SS with Bilsteins can be softer, but might not give you a planted feel on the highway at speed. When I set out to put a lift together, I didn't plan on doing a full 3" lift. But the more I read about people that use them and the LC coils and shocks working really well together, it just started to make more sense. My favorite builds on this forum are some variation of this set up. JayRolla, BigFishAllDay, BrianSD, and many other builds pointed me in this direction.

You might end up going through a lot of combinations in your search for a good match. Great looking rig btw.

You're 100% right about ride feel being subjective, that's why I'm trying to not ask guys about how certain shocks "feel" unless they have good back-to-back experience with good shocks(not blown) on the same coils.
I was actually super happy with the 5100's. Felt super planted, I rallied corners hard, they soaked up big low freq speed bumps like a trophy truck, super comfortable ride, still awesome loaded down... I could go on.
But the up travel [emoji24]
And since SS talked so highly of the Tokicos, I figured I would give those a shot- if I can get them in the length I need.
Otherwise, I'll either be lowering my lower mount and keeping the 2" lift 4th/5th/FJ 5100s, getting Tundra 5100s, or getting 3rd gen 5100s and possibly raising the lower mount to the upper hole like Brian Ellinger did.

Yeah, the compression on the 5th gens I had sucked. I have no idea why they made them like that, but the travel is a good bit shorter. I wish I had a picture of the two side by side, but I don't.

Also, not only did I get the other '99+ OEM corner light I needed, but I got a replacement passenger headlight(to replace the one I messed up with Simple Green when it was hot outta the oven *) from the homie [MENTION=124101]Chim[/MENTION] !
Super excited to have the amber corners back; the clear corners were driving me crazy [emoji58]
Hopefully I can get the HID kit soon, 'cause I'm super stoked to have nice light output!
Still haven't fixed the locker.
Still haven't painted the bumper.
Kinda mad the KO2's are available in C load now.
Kinda really want a 5th gen.
Still REALLY hate the TRD 4600's.
Will be working on the custom cab Friday, and possibly doing a body mount chop on a '14 Trail Saturday. We'll see.

Worked on the homie's custom cab more today. Got his new carpet kit with sound deadener cut/fit/installed(NOT an easy job), seats back in, shifters back in with new ball seats, ARB compressor mounted and wiring ran, front tires back on, interior trim cleaned and reinstalled, AND got it running again! It was a good day.
I've been doing a wire harness thinning, because the bay was full of unused wiring and connectors from the original 22R engine. I hate all that clutter garbage. Needless to say, after the joy of finally getting the truck running- and then then getting the exhaust done- it was a little bit discouraging for my buddy to see his truck not running again. Looks great all nice and neat in the bay now though [emoji1360]
Getting closer-

Had the front tires off to get the front end lower while I worked on the bay harnesses, so it was nice to see it back on its feet again-

His buddy asked me if I would troubleshoot his light bar wiring install on his YXZ, so I looked at that while I was there-

Couldn't find anything wrong! [emoji23]

Thanks man. Got the plates from BayAreaMetalFab. They're super cheap, and make the job really quick and easy. Fit is spot on too.
I wish they took a little more material off the front(further toward the frame), but maybe it's not necessary. I was thinking about having a local shop give me a quote on cutting my own design out for me.

In other news, I took out my old mats protecting my new mats(lol), vacuumed the new mats, and when I brushed my hand across the carpet to get rid of the vacuum lines, the mat felt damp. "Um, what?!"
Took the mat out, and my DS carpet is SOAKED! [emoji24]
Sunroof drains are still clear, and I haven't gotten any water coming from the headliner like before, so I'm confident it's not a drain/sunroof issue this time.
That said, I haven't made any holes in the firewall for wiring, haven't done anything with any plugs or boots in the firewall or floor- nothin. Hopefully its an easy fix, but now I kind of want to find replacement carpet too [emoji58]

Thanks man! I sprayed it real good with simple green, let it sit for a minute or so, and blasted every nook and cranny with a hot water pressure washer.
Then I sprayed it down nice with Stoner Trim Shine(aerosol) from the auto parts store. Wiped excess off anything I didn't want too shiny. Makes all the rubber hoses and plastics and wiring- everything- just look awesome. I've been using that method on all my cars for a few years now.

Can you explain what you mean by hot pressure washer? When I google that, I see $3,000+ washers.

I have this simple Ryobi one from HD. It's pretty badass, but the water is cold as it comes from my garden hose.

[MENTION=99383]amalik[/MENTION] I had a hot water spigot put in on the side of my house when I had it built, so that's where my hot water comes from.
I know some people use the spigot on the bottom of their hot water heater.
I'm not sure if all pressure washers can handle that hot of water, but running through your garden hose takes the temp down some, and I haven't had any issues on the 10yr old pressure washer I have.
