Ultragauge, Scangauge, and 2-1/16" Gauge Mounts

A question for the scangauge users - is the SG-supplied velcro sufficient to hold the SG to the backing plate, or would you find it useful to have an additional securing feature?
One idea is to provide slots in the backing plate to use with stainless zip ties, as shown below:
Another option is to add holes to line up with the SG screws, so that you could take out say two screws and replace them with longer ones, holding the SG to the backing plate, as shown below? It'd make it more difficult to remove the SG from the vehicle, which I guess could be a good or bad thing.
Or is the whole thing a solution looking for a problem, and a simple backing plate is good enough?

Leon, I mostly used the SG2 in my other car (MINI Cooper S) for years. I found the use of velcro adequate, for a while. It sags at some point, and the face tilts downward, so not desirable....
I ended-up going with something velcro-like, but no fuzzy side. Like this...
Rock-solid. With buttons on both sides of the SG2, don't just place it in the middle as it will "teeter-totter". A couple strips on the back, near the ends works very well...

I no longer have the SG supplied velcro (bought the SG in 2011, and used in multiple cars) but I'm using some of those 3M "Command" adhesive mounting strips I got from Home Depot and it holds pretty well...certainly more firmly than velcro. And it comes off easily without residue as well.

If you use the traditional (easy to get) velcro options, it will sag with time and heat. If there is a little return/ledge at the bottom of the mount, it would mitigate that issue.
A company called BlendMount uses velcro inspired product (probably 3M made, can't remember - same look as the stuff Tony posted) that works well and I have had good luck with in multiple cars for multiple years. Their product (mounting to a rear view mirror stem) won't work in the 4Runner...

Thanks Charlie, I've seen Blendmounts, but like you said, they won't work for the 4Runner. They use a flat vertical plate as the mounting surface, so maybe I'll just go that route too - bends are relatively expensive to add, unless you are stamping out thousands of parts. I notice that their kits include zip ties, maybe that's belt and suspenders

Good question - I know that I'd hate to have to buy a whole new mount for these situations, so the answer is: you will NOT have to buy another mount if you do that!
The SG mount is essentially a UG mount with an additional flat plate to hold the SG. So if you ever decide to switch to the UG, you can just undo the plate, and be left with the UG mount! Or, you can leave the plate on with the UG, and convert it to a "touchscreen" approach.
Conversely, if someone buys the UG mount, and later decides to switch to the SG, they can buy the additional flat plate separately, instead of having to buy a whole new mount.

does this gauge monitor trans temps? i looked on their website and didnt see anything.
powered by max makes something very similar, but it is incredibly specific to what it monitors and doesnt look as flexible as this. sorry for it being sort of off topic, i just didnt want to make another thread. that paranoid mount looks perfect, i hate anything on an a pillar, way too distracting.

The SG and the UG MX can monitor trans temps on 99+ models. Mine is a '97, and I have an auxiliary trans temp gauge down low in the console. I hate the location because I can't easily see it. As others said, to each their own

i finally found something on their xgauge page, although its confusing as hell. way over my head with too many #s. id really like something like this to monitor other stuff as well, but if its confusing, i dont want to deal with it.
