As a Midwesterner, earlier this year I had a chance to visit SoCal/LA for a few days. Could not believe the Runner culture out there! Tons of Gen 3's, in fantastic condition. Tons of later year copies all over the place. Most were stock, mostly in pristine condition, others a little more jazzed up.

Equally impressive, all the different colors..standard silver, gray, then everything else like I've never seen, black, white, red, blue, green...crazy. I could have stood on a corner in Manhattan Beach and watched them come along all day. Was turning slightly green with envy myself...:thumb:

Well, Gen 3's are rare, have see a few that were red or green. Gen 4's are a little less rare, overwhelmingly silver, a few black ones. Later Runners I've seen are the same, add in the occasional white or red one.

Cool you got to see such variety. Guess I take it for granted and never thought other places in the country may have a color deficiency in 4Runners.

I was thinking the same thing, and too hear someone call a 3rd gen rare really baffles me.
But it’s nice for once to hear that someone (sport2004) actually found enjoyment/goodtimes in Southern California’s over populated streets and traffic congestion it allowed him to see every generation 4runner and all the colors of each generation in what he considered pristine condition (I assume not rusting away condition) just by hanging out on street corner.

There are lots out here but it's crazy in Hawaii. Almost everyone owns Tacos or 4Runners. Police, Fire and other gov. as well.

That is one thing about our neck of the woods, very few 2WD's. Looked at one, quite a bit cheaper.

Cool how things are so different from midwest to ca. We went to midwest to visit son in feb and were shocked by the rust on the vehicles. Hope you enjoyed your visit to so cal

Just moved to San Diego from Illinois, you're right, it's crazy how many 4Runners and Tacomas there are. I see between a dozen or two just during my fifteen minutes commute to work. It's pretty cool.

Whoops, I'll have to update that. Just moved to Allied Gardens a week ago. So far I'm digging the SoCal life over rural Illinois.
