Undercarriage pre-offroading

Anyone spray their undercarriage prior to offroading? Never did before, but read that some spray armorall, wd40, or even Pam (cooking spray) prior to offroading to aid in the cleaning.

We going camping this weekend up in the mountains, and puddles of (semi) stagnant water/mud is almost a guarentee... takes a long time to wash the stink down with the truck...

Just looking to help the cleaning with the 4R.

When I was growing up we had an old military jeep n we used to spay kerosene n water mixture and I kno others used to use diesel mixed with a bit of waste oil, but I don't kno if it will damage some of the rubber or plastic , and it's not environmently friendly and u kno how some of them tree huggers are! Also the smell may not be very pleasant when heated if it got onto exhaust etc.
 
I used to spray my vehicle undercarriage and wheel wells with Mudd Off before going anywhere there was mud. I don't go into mud that often (I try to avoid it at all costs) but I have used all the ideas you posted at one time or another between dirt track racing and racing quads. WD-40 makes the garage smell when you get home and be careful not to get it on any exhaust components, especially the exhaust manifold when spraying the front wheel upper shock mounts. You'll have to deal with a horrible smell all day long. People with white vehicles have noticed staining on the clear coat from WD-40 and PAM. The oils soak into the clear coat and leave spots.

The reason I stopped using them is because if I do a stream crossing in the GWNF or at a few of my local spots the coating would leave a slick in the water that looked like an oil sheen. Mud Off claims they are environmentally safe but I still wasn't comfortable with it.

Now I just ride the trails and get home and put a sprinkler under the truck for a couple of hours and then head to a no touch car wash with the underbody spray and pay the guy standing outside 20 bucks to let me drive through with no soap and just the underbody wash 3 or 4 times.

driving your truck through the water isnt exactly environmentally friendly either.... but we do it lol
 
Washing the undercarriage

For dust, sand, mud and snow on the undercarriage I go to the local coin-op, self-serve car wash and use the power sprayer to remove 95% of the debris. Cost is $2.00 for 4 minutes. I start with the soapy water setting and finish with a clear rinse. It helps if you know where the T4R traps dirt and road mud and get into those spaces with the water hose. The last time I drove a dirt road in the snow I got a ton of mud under the vehicle. I washed the undercarriage in the gutter before I went to the power wash. A bucket of soapy water and a stiff brush help with the wheel wells.
 
I leave the protective coating of mud from the previous offroad trip on there.
The new stuff barely sticks to it, so there is no build up.....

Here in Hawaii they only have coin operated car washes on the military bases. For regular locals no coin operated sprayers available. Even for some of the military guys the coin operated car washes don't allow super muddy vehicles.



I like to get a fair amount of mud off, was helping a friend do some suspension work on his truck this past weekend and as I'm taking parts off have clumps of dirt falling on my face and in my mouth. Lol lol.
