Hello all -
I'm new to the forum. I recently purchased a 2005 Forerunner 4x4 from a local FL dealer. Car is in great shape, with low miles, however, upon looking underneath I discovered a LOT more than normal corrosion throughout the entire undercarriage. I suspect this is because it was in NJ most of its life (CarFax history) before being driven to FL and traded. I would suspect road salt would be mainly to blame. Today, I took the car to a local shop that does undercoating. The owner proceeded to tell me that he has had a terrible experience undercoating 4Runners. According to him, Toyota sprays some type of coating of which he is unfamiliar to the undercarriage and wheel wells. When he sprays his coating over top of this, everything becomes Vaseline like and even starts to drip off onto the ground - he said a real nightmare. He refused to spray any type of coating on my car.
Question??: Does anyone know of an undercoating that would not create problems like what is mentioned above? And before the car is undercoated, does anyone have a suggestion as to how to eliminate the rust? thank you all!!
