I may have gynxed myself with recent posts, but today my truck stalled on the way home from work.
While going down the road at roughly 50mph, my truck lost power and stalled. Once I coasted up and over the curb (no shoulder, incompetent drivers), I tried turning it over, but it just turned over. I checked all the connections on the passenger side as I was working there yesterday. Everything was buttoned up and connected correctly. When I tried starting it, it acted as if it wanted to, but sounded as if it was starving for fuel. I pulled and checked the fuses and relays for proper connections. At this point, I had nothing else fuel related I could check, so I tried to turn it over and it started right up, but I had a CE light.
Thinking it may happen again, I kept to the side streets. Luckily I made it over the overpass when it decided to stall again. Once I came to a stop, I ran through what worked before, and the truck started. Since I didn't want to walk 2 miles to the nearest auto parts store, I continued on my journey. I made it to the APS without incident, but I still had the CE light. The best I could figure was I had a sticky relay and took it inside to find a replacement, but it was HOT HOt HOT. They had a generic version in stock, so I replaced the TAIL relay with the new relay and relocated the Denso, to the EFI location. I made it another 7 miles home without any problems.
Looking more into it, it looks like we have a COR relay that also plays a part in the fuel system. I want to replace old relays to prevent future issues so I started looking for part numbers for both relays. I found the EFI relay pretty easy, but when I tried to find the COR relay part # I couldn't. I went out to my truck to locate it and scribble down the part number, but I was distracted by the thought it might not start again come morning, so I started it. It ran great. With that distraction out of the way, I took the lower dash apart to find the COR relay, which I believe I did. As soon as I pulled the relay and reinstalled it, then started the truck the CE light went off.
Question are:
Does any of this sound like a relay issue? If so, an EFI or COR relay?
Should the relay be so fricking hot?
Also, is our COR relay, the only relay near the fuse panel? The location matched a picture I found, but that was for a Tacoma.
