Unsure on which type of rack for my 1999 4runner

Hello all,

I am new to this forum. I have a 1999 toyota 4runner, 5spd, 4cyl and non 4x4.

I'm looking to get surf racks for it. The roof of my rig has rails running along side the sides, that barely stick up a cm from the rooftop.

Do i find racks to attach to these rails?

Or will a standard yakima or thule "gutter" rack do the trick?

My budget is about $250, new or used.

What racks do y'all recommend ?

Be patient, ask around and or check a few build threads. I'm sure someone on here will sell you there old cross bars that they removed for a aftermarket rack.
Type in whitson or (wmw) racks or drabbits. They are both builders of racks. Then just see who bought them and P.M. Them about purchasing the old factory rack. You certainly can get Yakima or Thule but if your just using it for surfboards the factory racks will be plenty strong.

I like the yakimas. You'll want to find a set that mate to the rack you have. The gutter ones won't work.

You can always find them on craigslist. Or buy someone's crossbars from this forum. They usually sell the stock ones cheap. They'll work perfect for surfboards.

I have Yakima locking Q towers and cross bars which would be perfect for your current set-up... let me know whether you're interested in them, as I'd like to make you a deal and move these out of the garage...
