I have been writing this unofficial build thread in my head for weeks now. The one thing that I could not come up with was a title, hence "Untitled". The thought behind this "unofficial" build thread is 3 fold. 1). To exchange information, what most of you would call a BS thread. 2).To get suggestions/help with any issues we run into while building. 3). To consolidate all the important information into one, easy to read, OFFICIAL build thread (trying to make it easier for the next guy). With that said, let get started!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In July we bought this....
Its a 1996 Limited (w/E-locker) with 188k on the clock. We wanted something that had been started but still had some room to grow into its own. 188k was a turn off, but the option was to spend the same amount for a totally stock one with 130k on it. Truth be told I wanted one with under 100k. As it sits this is the current list of modifications:
-Savage Offroad Hybrid Front Winch Bumper
-Savage Offroad Rock Sliders Standard
-Savage Offroad Front Engine & Differential Skid Plate
-Savage Offroad Transmission & Transfer Case Skid Plate
-BajaRack 4runner Standard Basket Rack
-Swayaway RaceRunner 2.5 Front Coilovers
-ICON Front Uniball UCA Kit
-Bilstein 5100 Rear Struts
-Old Man Emu Rear Lift Springs
-Energy Suspension Rack & Pinion Polyurethane Bushing Set
-2000 OEM 4runner Glass Headlights
-CBI Offroad Ditch Light Brackets
-(2) HID 9" Spotlights
-(2) LED Rear Bumper Crawling Lights
-Hella Supertone Red Horns
-X3 Bestop 4.75Ton Recovery Shackles
-SuperWowFactory "TOMS" Custom Vintage Vinyl
-Airaid Modular Intake Tube
-K&N 33-2054 Drop-In Filter
-OEM Airbox w/ Deck Plate Mod
-External Transmission Oil Cooler
-Pioneer CD Player w/ Bluetooth/ Aux Input/ USB
-Cobra 29 LTD Classic CB Radio
-Pyle PSP8 PA Speaker
-Firefly 4ft Black Fiberglass CB Antenna
-LED Full Interior/Speedometer Light Conversion
-WheelMate 1.5" Hubcentric Spacers Black
-(5) MB Wheels 352 Series 16x8.5 -6 6x139.7
-(4) Ohtsu AT4000 A/T 285/75R16 (3,900 miles)
-(1) Toyo Open Country MT 285/75R16 (Mounted on Spare Wheel)
(copy/paste from the ad I bought from)
It has a good start, right? There are still things that I want to do and that need to be done to it. Some of the "upgrades" were done kinda half assed, I want to fix those and do it right, along with regular maintenance items. The plan is to build it into a DD/trail/camping/hunting rig which it does now...just better!
So on the agenda (this will be updated as things are complete and other thing come to light):
Interior (which is, well, old and stinky)
-Seats
-Fix the glass (pass. window not working nor the sunroof)
-Replace misc. trim pieces (broke or missing)
-Install speakers (head unit it good)
-Cargo area (expo style?)
-Dynamat (is that how its spelled?)
Exterior (for the most part is fine IMO)
-Rear bumper/tire carrier
-RTT
-Misc. painting and removing the damn Plasti-dip (its everywhere)
-Front bumper replacement? Maybe?
-Winch
-Add and move lights
Drivetrain
-35's (a must)
-Gears
-Front and rear air lockers
-Exhaust
-Bulletproof trans/5 speed?
There's a bunch of things I left off the list. I'll write those up when I get to them. Also, the "modding" has already been started. I'll get everyone up to speed in the next week or so. Thanks for reading and feel free to chime in at anytime, I could use all the help I can get.
God bless.
