Upcoming Knock Sensor Work

Hey guys, new to the forum here but I just got my 98 with 396,000 miles on it and got engine apart down to the heads. I'm not having the knock sensor code but wondering if I should replace them since I have the engine all apart now. Or maybe just the harness? It sounds like that is more often the problem rather than the sensors.

Any advice would be great!

If you’re that far into it, with that many miles...it would just be cheap insurance. Do the sensors and the harness.

You don't have to remove the fuel rail to take the intake off.
I get the whole preventative stuff, but if it aint broke........

there is also when you touch it because of the age it will leak or break after it's disturbed. I just did this entire job and replaced a bunch of heater lines and vacuum lines that were hard as rock and broke into 2 pieces when I removed them. it just depends on the condition everything is in, the age of things on the engine is almost a bigger deal than the visual condition IMO.

plus what is your time frame for owning it? if you don't care how long it runs into the future because it's already a rust bucket and your just trying to make it last a bit longer.... sure.

True, the only problem is how expensive the sensors are for OEM. $170 each for the denso's off of Camelback Toyota. Do you or anybody know a good deal on these sensors for OEM?
