So I finally got around to doing a few things to the Silver State T4r. Here are a few shots of the before.

Here is a good starter shot and you can see the front is lifted with the original spacer kit

Here you can see the saggy rear. Supposed to be 2" which it was I am sure at one time but sagged to look almost stock...

First was a new hood shield. Old one was fadded to purple as you can see in the pic above. :ugh Changed it for an AVS - Autovent Shade Bugflector. Went with the shorter of the two. Think it was the original and not the bugflector II. I liked the shorter size and it works and looks great (in pics below)

Then I picked up a set of 17" tundra split 5 rims and F-stone destination AT tires. Hadn't planned on rims and tires so quick but I got the rims for such a good deal on fleabay that when I sold my 5star's I only had to pay the shipping. :D

On to the lift. After reading and rereading info here, searching and pondering, taking in lot of advice and finally making my own decisions based on price, use and ride...

Front: I had planned on going with the toytec/eibach 3" lift coils. When I ordered them from toytec turns out they were back ordered so they called me and sent a set of the 883's instead. Apparently they have similar spring rates and they gave me the same price so a great deal.

Rear: I decided on a set of LC coils for the rear. Found a set for $75 at the local toyota salvage lot. Not sure why but mine seem to be slightly different than what it says in the FAQ. It's kinda hard to tell faded colors on old springs but the FAQ says should be one of these:
19.25" Double Purple Dark Blue White 8 wraps
19" Double Pink Light Blue White 7.5 wraps
18.5" Double Pink Grey White 7.5 wraps

Best I can tell & measure they appear to be:
18.75" Double Purple/Drk Blue/White - 8 wraps
18.5" Double Pink/Light Blue/White - 7.75 wraps

For shocks I went a little off the reservation and got Rancho 5000s. I know some people like them and some don't. I choose the RS5762 up front. After a call to Rancho I learned that the RS5762 for the 4cyl has the same exact valving as the RS5763 for the V6 but uses a topout bumper instead of a top out spring giving it almost 2" of added travel for the lift up front. The rears are a set of RS5208 which is for the LC to match my LC springs w/ added travel out back too.

Finally got it all installed last week. I really like the ride of the new lift and Ranchos. Much smoother than the old spacer lift and les $chwab shocks.

Here is a before and after pic. I tried to park in the same spot:

Again before and after. This time with the old rims & old lift vs new rims and new lift. :D

Here are the before and after measurements. Keep in mind that I already had a spacer lift so these are not stock vs lift numbers but spacer lift vs renewed spring lift.

Before -&- After floor to bottom of fender flare
LF 37" -&- now 37.6"
RF 36.75" -&- now 37.6"
LR 36.25" -&- now 39.6"
RR 36" -&- now 39.5"

The final thing that I did today was to install the panhard drop bracket. In my opinion (and yes, I know we all have them) is that while the panhard drop may not be needed it does make the 4Runner ride much better with it vs. without if you have a lift. Without it when I hit bumps I would feel it swim a bit because the rear axel was pulled toward the passenger side. Now it doesn't swim but rides up & down over bumps with the rear axel square to the front.

All and all I am really happy with my lift. :guitar3: Woot.

Hehe...nice job....you must be pretty darn pleased with yourself!...Your 'after' shots taken in the evening with the headlights on somehow add to it!

Too many words>? Ha! I like that shot. It is early morning. I get up wicked AM. Definitely not desert dune color.

Does anyone know what the measurements are on a stock 4runner with the fender flares from the floor to the bottom of the flare running 265/75-16's or 265/70-17's.
OR from the center of the hub to the bottom of the flare on any tire size?

I'm trying to figure out how much lift I have. Front is 3" give or take. Rear is probably 4.25 :pimp:

looks great!!! what size tires did you end up going with?

I'm runnign a set of Firestone Destination AT's 265/70-17. I could have gone bigger but honestly with gas prices being the way they are right now I can't justify it on a daily driver and weekend warrior.

i know mine stock with 265/70-16 with limited flares was 35" front and 34.5" rear. yes it had the typical sag. the 265/70-16 are worn out also and actually measure just under 30" tall

Hey hartsgt just noticed you are in Carson. I'm in Reno. We should meet up sometime. Trails much?

Hmmm.... what year runner do you have? Looks like I got 2.6" of front lift and 4.25-4.5" in the rear (w/out sag). Sounds about right. :guitar3:

yes we will definitly have to meet up sometime. i havent been doing much trails lately. i need to do tires real bad. teenage daughter kind of puts a damper in the funds sometimes.

yea that looks like about 2.6 on the front. i cant remember the color code on my rear springs but my fender height is about the same as yours in the rear and the front is at 38". this is with the short tires. i need to drop the front down but with the stock worn out tires the rake looks drastic. yours has about a 2" rake but sits great. mine was about the same rake but looked like a lot more with the small tires. oh yea mine is a 96 limited

Looks great! I have the parts to do almost exactly the same thing sitting at my place right now. Just need a day to get it all done.

Toytec Ultimate & the same 17" Sequoia wheels coming very soon! :boink:

I'll be out there. Gates open at 7:00, track goes hot at 9, lunch and Try-The-Track is at noon (a free lead-follow ride around for people to see what the track is like at 45-55 mph), hot track from 1-5. Sunday we do it again. :)

Come on out and say hi. I'll be working and riding all weekend. Name is Josh by the way.... bike looks like the pictures.

LOL

Dangit Josh, that makes my track fever even worse! I recently moved to Texas from Kansas where I was racing 600's in the CCS Great Plains region. I absolutely loved it but starting over down here just hasn't been a priority even though there's some pretty good tracks within reach. I really miss being on the track and would love to ride some tracks out west! BTW, with MotoGP coming to Austin, TX in the next couple of years you just might have to plan a trip this way!

I am installing my suspension lift this Saturday and should have the Tundra rims on next week. I'm still trying to sort out how much trimming would be needed to stuff a little bit larger tire on mine. Other than that our rigs are pretty much twins on the outside.

Ride is looking good! Oh and how many of your 9 lives have you used on the track? One of my friends races and I think he's used about 14.

:-D Ya never know. I't pretty cool that MotoGP is coming to TX. I've been a trackday guy but not racing yet. At 41 yrs it's kind of hard to get into a sport domanted by 20 somethings. Ha! That said I just sat down at the computer to look un the next new racer school for AFM around here. We have a local "street racer" series so I might enter that one... we'll see.

Post up some pics after the install. One thing I think I would do differently if I did it again is I'd pull the rear bumper stops that go inside the coil springs. They sit on top of the rear coils. Not sure they are needed with the longer springs and it would keep the rear a little more level.

Tire wise I could have fit a bigger tire on the rear for sure. Front looks like probably with a bit of back spacing adjustment. I just went with the smaller size to save on gas and cost of tires. If I get into big summer 4 wheeling I'd get a second set of tires for it.

So far I am still in the + colum. I ride hard but within my limits. Being an owner gives one an interesting prespective on who crashes and why. To paraphrase Ken Hill (very accomplished racer and now coach) if you are crashing on track something has gone catastropihically wrong and you need to analyze what's happening.

I wondered the same thing when I was putting the bump stops back inside the new springs. I'm not exactly gentle off-road though so I guess if there's a scenario in which they would do some good I'll find it at some point.

My race and pit buddy is still doing it at 41 years old and has no plans of stopping soon. I gave him a bunch of grief when he "qualified" for the 40+ class but honestly watching that class ride you get a true appreciation for combining courage and personal ability understanding as they pertain to an individual's own limits. It makes for a pretty competitive and entertaining race!
