Upgraded to TRD V6 Exhaust

OK - installed a TRD V6 CAT back exhaust - these have been discontinued so there are some specials out there. Love the sound, and the TRD is a direct replacement for the OE muffler/tailpipe. Removal of the factory exhaust was a little more challenging then I expected as the bolts/nuts on the tailpipe connector flange were rusted away to nothing - couldn't even get a wrench on them SO without access to a cutting torch, I used the next best thing a reciprocating saw and a metal cutting blade - cut the old exhaust right out!

This was the first mod I did when I got my T4R. I got it from a guy on here. I didn't get a chance to really feel the difference between the stockers and the dualies but the sound is unbeatable. The only annoyance is when i am going up a hill in a low gear. The sound of the exhaust kinda drones on.

That TRD exhaust is made by Borla. You may be able to find a good deal by searching for 4runner borla exhaust also.

EDIT: For anyone wanting to do this, the hangers that came with the exhaust were too tight and kept breaking. I recommend reusing the stock hangers and getting an extra one for the rear.
 
I have the TRD exhaust on my V6 and I regret installing it. It drones sooo bad. I can't even have a conversation with passengers nor talk to anyone on the cell phone. It was ok the first few months then it just gets loud. The only thing I like about it is the dual side tips that exits out the back.

That's good because I like Borla. How are you sure it's made by Borla, though?

I'd love to see video of the exhaust the OP now has. I've been thinking about putting one on my v6 runner but not only was I afraid of it sounding like pure rice, I'm always fearful when playing with exhausts on any car that I'll have horrible drone. Definitely ruins it.
 
You must have a different exhaust. The TRD for the V6 is a single, fairly large chrome tip angled to the passenger side. There is no dual tip. I have to say that is does drone a bit between 40 & 50 mph but not too bad. It does not sound ricey in any way - low growl. It is very quiet at highway speeds.
 
for truckmike, i heard that borla use to make the trd catback before 05, & that after that trd switched to BOSAL, its stamped right on the muffler. if u want the borla, u have to buy the borla, not trd.
